V3i - calls randomly not going through or coming in

So just recently my V3i has started acting very wierd. Sometimes when I call somebody, the call will either go through and I can't hear them but they can hear me, or the call will not go through at all and it will disconnect.

It will also do the opposite, where if somebody tries to call me either it goes through and I can hear them but they can't hear me or they can't get through at all...

Can this be a bad sim card or is it more likely the phone? I have powered it off, removed the battery and sim put it all back together and restarted but it still happens. Would a low battery cause this, because it seemed to start when my battery was getting lower, I am charging it now and will test it when it is fully charged again.
