I don't know much about this model, but it is official Cingular is releasing this phone sometime this spring according this Cingular MediaRoom article.

Any info on this device would be nice.

Nope it is not a slider, it is a black flip with music player controls on the top of the flip and a MicroSD slot.

do you have pics, that phone your describing sounds likes ce 500

Posted by: hitechy

I think people are getting confused. CU500 NOT CE500 NOT CU320 .

It is an upcoming 3G UMTS (or maybe HSDPA) phone for Cingular planned to be launched at or around the same time as the Nokia 6282.

Everyone clear?

I hope the CU500 doesn't look to much like the CE500, which is an extremely fugly phone.

P.S. Shouldn't this be stickied since we have official word from Cingular it is going to be carried?

Posted by: helpermonkey

It doesn't look anything like the CE500 in my opinion, more like a V3.

Oh please quit taunting us! Can you give a more detailed description.

PLEASE

Posted by: hitechy

Please don't tell me it's based off of this LG

Here is another pic.

Seems to fit your description pretty well. RAZR keypad, 3G, music buttons on outside.

Posted by: KikoKazuma

That thing looks sexy if you ask me.

Posted by: mc87243

Yea it does look like a nice phone.

Posted by: hitechy

If this is the phone, hopefully the Cingular version has QVGA screen. I'm tired of 176*220.

Sooooo 2004.

Here is another pic.

Posted by: iamthedudeman

Looks good to me. I will buy it. Much better than the LG and Samsung that Cingular just released. Much better than the current razr.

Posted by: altNz

The keypad layout is a bit weird to me and I almost thought the original photos were photoshopped until I saw the gsmarena link above. I'd agree it looks and will definately feel better than the Samsung out right now, dislike the rubbery keypad.

It doesn't really look like that phone to me.

The top of the flip is black anodized aluminum and painted gloss black metal (I think). The 4 way directional pad is metal, and the area around the keys is metal but the keys are black and they are actual buttons.

Alright, I think I finally found what you're talking about. It's the older version of the U890 which I gave the pics of. This is the U880. We get the older version.

It looks close, but the CU500 is different.

Sorry if I'm annoying you to much with this, but do you possibly have any pics you could share with your fellow HoFo'ers.

I know it would make alot of people's day.

Posted by: hitechy

Is the screen QVGA?

Posted by: KikoKazuma

I'm pretty sure it would, it's rare to see flips with VGA screens.

Wouldn't it make sense that the CU500 would have HSDPA since it is the upgrade to the CU320, and the Samsung ZX-20 is the upgrade to the ZX-10 which has HSDPA, which was released at the same time as the CU320.

So bthe successors of the ZX-10 and CU320 would both have HSDPA, not just the ZX-20, right?

Notice it has edge, and the U890 does not.

More photos: look at middle of page:

http://www.mobile-review.com/exhibi...6-live-en.shtml

Here is a photo saying it is a HSDPA phone(I don't think this is true, but you never know?)

Well I can't say I even looked at the specs to see if it has HSDPA or not. I am wondering what the point is of HSDPA on a device that isn't a smartphone or can at least be used as a wireless modem (not sure if this can or not). It seems to me that most of the phones I see are not set up for real web browsing (like my Treo 650) even when they do have nice screens that seem like they would be capable of browsing. What would you do with all the speed of an HSDPA device?

The area around the keypad is not black, but silver, the 4 way pad is silver and round, the camera is in the hinge and rotates (like the Samsung). The phone is almost completely straight when closed with a slight rise in the area below the media controls.

I was just wondering if Cingular was waiting for HSDPA phones for video calling tp make the quality better or something.

i am craving a specs. list and some pics of thid thing.

I must know.

Posted by: hitechy

Sorry, typo. I want a specifications list.

Look at this chat I did with a representative at the Cingular Premier site:

Jordan M.: I am checking the availabilty of the LG CU500.
A representative will be with you in about 3 minutes.
[Erik - A representative has joined the session.]
Erik: Welcome to Cingular Wireless Premier. My name is Erik, I am reading your question and will be right with you.
Erik: Please contact our Premier NBO (National Business Ordering) Team at 1-800-845-9681, Monday - Friday 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. CST, for assistance with this if it is not shown among the selection of phones offered online.
Jordan M.: Well, I read in a press release that Cingular plans on launching the LG CU500 and Nokia 6282 UMTS phones, so I was wondering if you had a release date.
Erik: I have seen the LG CU320, but I do not have a release date for the 500 online
Jordan M.: I wanted to order a bunch of the CU500. I read about them at http://cingular.mediaroom.com/index...eases&item=1468
Jordan M.: Look at the bottom of the "How to get Cingular Video" section.
Erik: I have not seen any release date info internally here, I might recommend calling Clay Owen of Cingular Wireless, 1-404-236-6153 listed at the bottom of that press release.
Jordan M.: Alright, I'll try that. Thanks for the help.

Does anyone want to try calling Clay Owen @ 1-404-236-6153 to find out a release date?

Posted by: helpermonkey

Hitechy - I do understand you wanting more info... but there is no release date. The device is still in testing and as such, at best all there can be is a targeted acceptance date. This date will slip if problems are found (as they usually are on test mobiles) and new software needs to be written and loaded on the test devices (and possibly loaded again and again if errors keep showing up). Just pointing out that a concrete date does not exist. It will not be for several months at least.

Your right. There is no release date anyways, and if there is, it would just get pushed back a month or two. It's just I really need a new phone and am getting really impatient.

Ok, Helpermonkey, is this the phone?

If not, This may be coming to the US. We can only hope that Cingular will pick this one up.

No' its a different one than the ones I shown before. This was on the FCC website and approved for the US.

Posted by: iamthedudeman

Well this has to be it, if is isn't I don't know what you saw because this phone and the one posted earlier are the ones approved by the FCC and the phone is due second quarter.

Posted by: helpermonkey

Well that one does look similar in a lot of ways, but it doesn't fit the description. Sorry to keep disapointing you. I do know what I saw though, you can be sure of that.

Posted by: darkestgremlin

here is some java info about it
http://www.club-java.com/TastePhone...=LG&model=CU500
see if this is the phone, i doubt it though

Posted by: helpermonkey

I didn't think this thread would turn into a guessing game about what the phone looks like... we don't have a winner yet though.

btw, the phone's HSDPA data speeds look like they are as good as the two laptop cards I have used when it is connected via usb data cable.

Posted by: hitechy

I wonder if this phone would have any new services that would utilize the added speed of HSDPA if it has HSDPA.

I'm thinking in would be music downloads OTA, considering:

1. It has dedicated music buttons on the outside

2. I recieved a survey email from Cingluar that went out to those who bought a SLVR asking my opinon on OTA music downloading, how much I would pay, dual-downloads, and how often I listen to music on my phone.

3. Sprint, Verizon, and AMP'D have all launched it, so they need to keep up with the competitors.

What are you talking about? Do ou have a link, pics?

Posted by: hitechy

I'm surprised this model didn't show up today at CTIA.

Posted by: hitechy

I just did a search on ebay for "LG CU500" and my results were cases that match the description of the LG CU500. These cases are specifically made for that phone. This is like a sneak preview of the phone. Looks like the Samsung MM-A900.

Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/LG-CU500-CLAM-S...1QQcmdZViewItem

Posted by: hitechy

This phone is so ugly. The screen doesn't fill in the phone enough. Either make screen bigger or non-viewing area smaller. They try to make it look like the razr in that it has a big "bump" at the bottom when closed, but when opened it comes with the top part, making it look fugly.

At least you're the first one to post accurate pictures of the phone.

In case you (or anyone) were wondering,

It is a 2.0 inch QVGA screen that is 320 x 240 pixels. So it's not a "small screen" per say.

As for your comments on the "bump". The antenna has to go somewhere, it can't just "disappear". The RAZR, they decided to to make the phone asymmetrical by putting the antenna on the bottom of the phone, and not moveable, hence the bottom of the phone is larger than the top. The LG phone makes the phone look more uniform, but putting the antenna on the top portion of the phone.

And it is thinner than the RAZR in width (but slightly thicker in thickness) , and I find thinner to be more important than antenna placement.
