My GT is in my sig, add me if you like

Installed and working well on my Bell Mobility 7250 w/ 4.1 OS and BES.
Curious if any non-BES users on Bell are able to use it?

Three new service books appear after the install, so it looks like it should work fine without BES.

Do you have to pay extra for google talk ?

Is it just like gmail for your blackberry..or is there more too it ?

Posted by: hopetindall

It uses up your data bucket of course - so if you use it a lot - you might run over.

The application is free of charge. Just data usage, as mentioned by Hopetindall.

Google Talk is Google's Instant Messenging service. Similar to ICQ, MSN Messenger, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, etc.

Posted by: thahookup

oh...that clears things up for me

i thought its just like checking gmail...i dont use the chat they have

i stick to MSN messeger. i'll probably get IM+ or quickIM

Posted by: Baadshah7

Let me know when they come out with an AIM client for the BB...

Posted by: hopetindall

Me too - I'd like AIM support.

Could I ask some of the experts that are lurking to comment on something.

I've noticed that the Yahoo Messenger from Blackberry has a service book entry -

Gateway IP //206.51.26.192:19761;19760

etc...

But the Google Messenger doesn't.

To my simple mind - this means that the Yahoo messenger will work on all carriers (even those without a full TCP/IP stack) since it's provisioned in the service book - just like mail to use the Blackberry APN.

I presume however, that customers using Google Messenger will not be able to use the program without MDS or full TCP/IP access.

Is this right?

Are Bell Customers without MDS able to use Yahoo Messenger?

Are Bell Customers without MDS able to use Google Messenger?

My inquiring ming wants to know.

(After 30 Megs in 14 days on Rogers - I may be heading to Bell in 3 months even if it means going to a 7250 instead of a 8700!) ;-)

I use Ramble IM as an AIM Messenger on my 7290. Also works with ICQ. Just Google Ramble IM

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7250/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

AOL will eventually die. Better step up and get google talk.

Any chance there is. a OTA for Google Talk?

Posted by: hopetindall

I installed it OTA.

When powering down/up you have to sign-in to GoogleTalk. Happens with Auto On/Off as well. Anyone know a work around?

BB messenger is always on.

Posted by: Mr Pink57

^^ well the reason BB messenger is always on is because it's not technically a chat program, it's just a nice way of PIN messaging and you dont have to sign on to the service at all. If you want to not have to keep signing on to the service, just check the auto sign on box.

it must be slightly more than that though - since it keeps real time available status

Here is a nice thing about the Google Talk and Google Chat, which is within the GMail application.

My wife is not allowed to install things on her work computer as she does not have "administrative privileges." However I set up a Google Mail account and then tried to communicate using Google Talk on the BB and Google Chat from within the GMail program and it worked. Therefore she can instant message with me without having to download and install an instant messenger program. This is a nice feature that I do not think is an option with MSN or Yahoo.

Please disregard my earlier question about Google Talk. A service book just appeared for it!

I'm using the Googletalk for AIM and MSN.

It works great - and seems to have less bandwidth activity that using seperate clients.

Hi,

Google Talk is built on an open platform - called Jabber.

Jabber has the capability to setup agents on the server that connect through gateway hosts to other Instant Messenging Systems (Yahoo/AIM/MSN etc.)

This sounds harder than it is - but you basically need to download a PC Jabber client and setup your AIM account, MSN account etc.

You then magically have all your contacts appear under GoogleTalk on your BlackBerry.

(You only need to run the PC software once to set it up).

see http://blackberryforums.com/showpos...09&postcount=61

(It looks harder than it is).

I've been running this for two days now - works great.

when you AIM me at: hopetindallbb

I'm actually talking to you using googletalk on my BlackBerry!

Posted by: rbf351

that does work, but for some reason when i try to log on both aim on my PC, i get kicked off my blackberry. the otherday it let me log on both, but seems like something changed

Posted by: hopetindall

i noticed that too.

AIM used to let me have multiple connections (for example, home and office) signed on at the same time.

It doesn't seem to allow this anymore.

For ease of use though - I've created a BlackBerry specific AIM and MSN user

hopetindall and hopetindallbb for AIM and peter@hope-tindall.com and peter-bb@hope-tindall.com for MSN.

It's easier to manage my contacts this way.

I keep the bb user signed in all day from the bb and the desktop user signed in only when I'm at the desktop.

Works really nicely,

according to their past versio history, version 5.5 and up was supposed to let you sign on in more than 1 place at a time, seems like it works randomly

thanks for the insight.. is the Msn client on jabber as easy to use as G-talk is? is it set up the same way?

Posted by: hopetindall

There isn't a seperate client for the BB.

Unless you click the contact and choose 'View Contact' you wont even be able to tell the contact is on MSN - it looks just like a Google Talk contact.

PHT u r the MAN.. it DID seem harder then it was but its SOO EASY wow.. thanx.. i was sick of dowloading and deleting verichat ever 14 days... YES im a cheap *** i dont wanna pay for MSN

but now its FREE and some good things to high light.. its easy to use, very user friendly, and u get a notification of ur front screen AND inbox if u decide to have it display there too.. as when verichat keeps popping up windows over ur curent chosen task.. which is very annoying..

AGAIN.. thanx for sharing your discovery!

Posted by: mobile_pheen

i noticed that this automatically sends invites to every1 i add to my list and KILLS my invites. and my gmail account has all my MSN contacts in the contact list.. why did it make such a mess??

Posted by: hopetindall

I think it does this so it can let you chat in gmail.

When I sign into gmail now - I get a contact list on the lower left that allows me to chat online.

Posted by: Tiffster

Thanks for linking to the instructions for this. Just got my BB this afternoon and was freaking out about using txts for AIM. This works like a charm and I used my alternate IM name so its all good.

Posted by: marwhit724

there is a download for it for about 20bucks thru handago. just wondering if someone has it already.
