Problem adding wallpaper to CDM 8940

I just got a data cable yesterday for my CDM 8940. I can download the pics and vids off of the phone with qpst no prob, but having trouble adding my own wallpapers. I followed the tutorial, adding it to the wallpaper folder, reboot, go to "get it now", pics, until i see the prices, and when i go to downloads, I can see the file I added, but it has a red "X" next to it and it is just a black screen. I even tried overwriting an existing .jpg in my downloads folder, but the old one remained on the phone, even though qpst said it was overwriting it.
The wallpaper seems to be the right size, 179x205 and under 20 kb. Did i not go through the "get it now" far enough? Any ideas? I haven't tried adding my own ringtones yet, so i don't know if I would have the same problems with that too.

Your looking at it to View it... that's why a Red X is there... you can't send it to anyone...

try going into SETTINGS... where you can change it...

i tried that, it still just showed up as a black screen, no image
