Software for CU 320

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Cellbop

Just bought an LG CU 320 (Cingular) and can't find any software to download for it. I'm getting the LG PC Sync for it, should be here tomorrow. Hopefully it has the right drivers I need.

Posted by: cjmedina

Wirelessly posted (LG-CU320 Obigo/WAP2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Did you try the lg usa web page. The manual say you can buy a data cable. So im guessing they have a driver for it. What are you trying to put on it

Posted by: Cellbop

Yup, checked out their site, nada to download. Have a data cable, using my Thinkpad but can't install due to lack of device driver. I guess there should be somnething on the PC Sync sofware CD I bought from LG when it gets here; was just trying to get it together faster online.

Posted by: xcalibor04

I am having the same problem... Where did you buy the cable/software from?

Posted by: Cellbop

LG web site http://us.lge.com/index.jhtml

Posted by: Cellbop

Well, the software from LG has a device driver that seems to be ok, but the programmers haven't adapted their own software to the new phone. The program gets hungup trying to identitfy the CU 320. I'm trying to get my contacts from my old phone onto the SIM chip to transfer them over. What a pain!

Posted by: xcalibor04

The cable I bought yesterday (from Cingular) is a serial - not USB. It did not come with any software either...

I PM'd you.

I cannot believe this email from "customer service" at LG. These people are idiots if they think this going to do them any good whatsoever.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. Your e-mail has been received.
The software that you have obtained is not compatible with the CU320. In visiting our accessory website at the following link: http://www.buywirelessnow.com/lg/sh.../264361/cat/556, you will not see the CU320 listed among the compatible models. We are unaware as to when software will be available for your handset. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics.

Subject: RE: CU 320 Software
I purchased the USB cable and the LG Mobile Phone Data Transfer Suite for my CU320 only to find that the software lacked the ability to recognize my phone. This is the software that was on the page with the phone. I recognize that it is basically an adaptation of the Data Pilot program, but wouldn’t you think that when you’re selling these expensive 3G phones as a large multinational company that you would have had the software ready for them? You’re getting a really bad rap on some of the review sites over this with some participants saying they’re giving up on LG. Can’t blame them really, can you? Today support for a product means being able to hook it up to a PC and get your phonebook and other information.

The only reasonable answer would be that the updates will be ready tomorrow and as a free download.

If you don’t have that together than you’ll be losing another potential tryer/accepter into the tryer/rejecter camp.

Hey - here's my email telling LG that they have to provide software update because they promised to have one in their USER GUIDE which can be cited as a reason the unit was purchased: It'll matter if more than just one person sends something like this:

Dear E-Mail Administrator Tyria:

Thank you for taking the time to send me a pretty standard canned response. With all due respect, I think your response is in direct conflict with the representations made in your instruction manual that you distribute with the CU320 along with the inferences made on your website. Specifically, please note that in the second column on page 76 there is a clear and explicit representation that one would assume is made for the consumer to rely on in purchasing this phone (and accessories). If you do not have a manual handy let me point out the salient information. The page is entitled Accessories and plainly and unequivocally states that there is a Data Cable Kit available for this phone. It goes on to state that the Data Cable Kit includes not only the Data Cable, but also a CD-ROM. It goes on to state “On the CD-ROM there are programs like: - PC-Synch: To synchronize the phonebook with PC and Outlook.” Please note that this is a direct quote from your published CU320 User Guide.

When one goes to the LG website and looks for accessories from the CU320 link, it takes you via the software link to the PC-Synch web page. Given the representations in the User Manual, and the direct access to the PC-Synch web page on your site from the CU320 link, it appears that you have an obligation to provide the purchaser of your CU320 phone with the software as stated in your own documentation. This is in my opinion a binding obligation on your part to provide me with this software for my phone. Since I have depended on these representations to make my purchase, as I’m sure others have as well, your failure to provide me with this software will cause me and them financial harm. To put a stop to this damage, LG must make this software available to me and your other CU320 purchasers at once.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I eagerly await your instructions for downloading the PC-Synch update so enable me to use my CU320 to the extent promised in your User Guide.

I have had to deal with Tyria before. He or she (I don't know which) does not even try to be helpful. My issue was that LG doesn't have 64 bit USB drivers for any of the LG handsets and so you can not sync or use their phones for a modem if you have a Windows XP x64 system.

Tyria got a little snotty with me and told me in the email that LG doesn't produce USB drivers, Microsoft does. This is complete bull as LG writes the drivers.

I wrote a nastygram to LG Global telling them that I was disappointed with their lack of drivers, since by next year, most PCs will be sold with 64 bit operating systems. I also said that they need to be more in tune with their customers needs and not worry so much about pissing off the service providers (like Verizon).

If you go to the LG sites in other countries, they don't even try to sell you their software, it is given for free... Check out the UK site. http://uk.wowlg.com/uk/index.jsp Click on manuals and software... . www.wowLG.com

Hi Mojav. Thanks for the benefits of your run in with Tyria (rhymes with Syria?). I'm hoping some others may want to help startup a letter writting campaign, but my fear is that, as an early adopter type, I may be too much in from of the common useage (not enough CU320 users or even just 3G).

Are you just doing your workstation in 64bit or are you also doing a server in 64 bit? I was looking at doing a 64bit Win Server '03, but couldn't even find a good anti-virus for servers in 64bit. What other 64bit programs are you running that you are happy with?

Thanks.

C

Most of the programs that work with XP 32 bit will work with XP x64. Drivers are the problem with anything from wireless routers, keyboards and mice, printers, etc..

I have been able to get most everything I need driver wise through www.planetamd64.com . It is a site dedicated to 64 bit operating systems. However, the 64 bit LG USB driver issue has not yet been resolved yet.

I am using Avast for antivirus. It works good on x64 and it is free...

has any one been able to use the data cable from cingular to get on the web. if you could share any drivers would be good thanks

Has anyone been able to tether thier laptop to the CU320 via bluetooth?

I've tried the Cingular Connection Manager, but that got me no where, kept getting error 619.

Posted by: Joe Kewl

I did manage to get the phone tethered to my laptop via bluetooth and connect to the internet, see the cingular phones forum for the how to thread.

Also, I downloaded the U880 Software from this web site (54 MB!): http://uk.wowlg.com/uk/phones/h_all...sp?ph_name=U880

After messing with some of the software for a while (binary editing), I did get the LG Phone Manager software to download all of the contacts from my phone, although the were slightly garbled, and no phone numbers showed up.

Also, looking through several of the installed files in binary format, you can clearly see mentions of the model "CU320".

Perhaps someone with more experience could figure this out?

Sorry if I got lost in the responses, but did anyone get the CU 320 to work via USB (and 32b XP)? I was able to tether with bluetooth, but that's awfully slow. I've got the LG USB cable but haven't been able to make any use of it, presumably due to the lack of a driver.

Posted by: skyjunky

If anyone is interested in working with me I can look at adding support for this phone using bitpim, there are no guarentees, but maybe something can be done.
Send me a PM if you are interested

Has there been any updates to this issue? I just got a CU 320 and would very much like to sync with outlook. How does a $250 phone not have this capability when my old "free" Nokia 3120 did?

Sad?

How slow? I heard that BT and USB for tethering was not that much different. I use my V3 for tethering now and have tried both USB and BT without seeing a difference. I know I might see a little slower with a 3G phone but how much. If I can't get at least 300-400 downstream via BT then it is a dealbreaker for the new LG CU500.

Posted by: Cellbop

I've been able to send photos and vcards using the CU 320 Bluetooth to my V3i and the transmission has been painfully slow compared to using a wired phone tools program on my V3i. And everything has to be done one item at a time as far as I've been able to tell. definately second rate to a DataPilot or PhoneTools. And neither LG or DataPilot has seen fit to write the little bit of code needed to update their programs to be used with the LG CU320 - probably 'cause there haven't been enough sold. And there haven't been enough sold because there's no synch software. And there's no synch software.....

Posted by: wpbear

Transfering files maybe slow, but I am concerned about tethering speeds for data to a laptop.

As far as file transfer my wifes ROKR is soooooo slow when adding itunes via USB, but tethered for laptop data was ok, but that phone doesnt even have EDGE.

I have gotten PC Sync to at least recognize that my CU320 exists when I have it connected via Bluetooth serial port, but I always get a timeout error when trying to do anything. The screen on the phone changes as well when it tries to sync, but then nothing happens.

Posted by: jbzcar

OK, I have some cool news!

QPST is working with my CU320!

I still can't get anything at all out of PC Sync, and am actually getting even less when I try with my data cable than when I tried with Bluetooth.

LG needs to hurry up and release PC Sync for this phone!

Posted by: Ryan Lu

Try to visit www.mobileaction.com

It's seem to supported CU320 by cable.

Posted by: Cellbop

Well, since it appears there's some software for the CU320, Cingular no longer sells the phone (look on ebay if you want one). Now there is the CU500, admittedly a nicer phone (INMHO) based on a RAZR like flip format (I prefer the flip to the slider personally). The CU500 lets you use the microSD memmory card as a removable drive so you can load music, photos & etc. onto the microSD card. The only way I've found to move the phone numbers over is to write as much as you can to the SIM chip and then manually consolidate on the CU500 or send a Vcard from outlook using bluetooth or the USB cable to the microSD chip and import that into the address book. However (drum role please) I contacted the software outfit memtioned in the last post and was told they are working on an update for the CU500 which should be ready for release within a month or so (yeah!)

i have a CU320.
ive bought a memory card and bluetooth dongle.
the bluetooth dongle i bought online came with software to transfer files from the phone onto my computer and vice versa its pretty useful id have to say.

the only problem id say that im having is the whole headphone thing. :\
i bought a adapter/jack from Radioshack and connected it with my stereo headphones to the phone. the crappy part about that is that both the headphones and speaker play at the same time.

Posted by: trifecta

So there's still nowhere to get the drivers for the CU320 anywhere then?
