8125 Activation problem with Cingular

Currently i do not have cingular, but the company i work offers employees a discounted rate for phones, service, etc.

I am currently with T Mobile and i am going to switch to cingular. The first phone i have in mind is the 8125, but my friend who works at cingular is really discourging me from getting it. He mentioned problems with G3 and it's compatibility with the phone.

In addition i have also called a local cingular store and the sales rep told me the similar thing. He mentioned it had to do with authorizations. He even mentioned that they pulled the display model off and currently are not selling the phone due to that issue.

I can get the phone for $314, which i think is a good deal.

I'm just trying to decide if i should start a new account with cingular and get the 8125.

I currently use my 6600 and would absolutely use most/all the features of the 8125.

Any help/advice is appreciated.

It took quite a while to get mine activated for sure, but the Cingular people were extremely helpful during the process. They wouldn't let me off the phone until they had tested the data, voice and SMS features to make sure everything worked correctly. I had a running commentary too as the phone service proceeded through the activiation.

Still, it was a headache and took about 20 minutes to complete.

the 8125 is not even available in stores yet as far as i know. additionally, store reps will have very limited knowledge of this phone until it arrives on their shelves. if you read this forum you will see that everyone has been very pleased with the phone.

Someone mind telling me what G3 is? I hope you don't mean 3g...it's not even umts capable. The device is cool, there haven't been any real "flaws" with it as of yet, besides the ol' Windows Mobile bugs you might see every now and then.

Yeah, I got my 8125 from a local store 2 weeks ago.

Also, the phone isn't the 3G compatible...but I sure don't care!

i was in my local store 2 or 3 weeks ago and they knew nothing about it.

3G would be cool, but EDGE is plenty fast for now. By the time 3G is widely implemented, the next generation of 8125 is probably widely available as well.

It's like buying a PC. If you need it now, buy it now. The wait will never end if you want the latest and the greatest.

My activation was done with voice automation in less than 2 minutes.

ok i stopped by a cingular store today and sure enough they did not have any 8125's on display. They had a demo model stashed in the back with a dead battery. the sales rep that i was working with knew nothing about the phone. i mentioned that the blackberry chargers work with the 8125, he did not listen to me. later on his boss told him to use a backberry charger and he gave me the most dirty look.

they did admit problems with the new 3G sim cards and the 8125 and 2125.

my friend told me the email he received said users would loose some network functionality with the older non-3G sims. what functionality would that be??? anyone?

My phone works just fine with my old 64k sim card, I was actually trying to figure out why I should activate the 3g card they sent with the phone but there seems to be no real reason to.
