Moto L6 vs. V635

I have to choose a phone, and basically it has come down to the L6 or V635 based on the fact that they have the 850Mhz (important, as I live in a rural area). An SE would be nice by all means but most of them are either out of my price range or don't have 850Mhz.

I like the L6 because it can get it cheaply, and its a simple phone and it has a unque form factor. I am tired of the overabundance of clamshells and the L6 seems fresh. And its all about the price too, I can likely get it for $200 CAN

I like the V635 because it is sort of stylish, and has lots of features that I think have then potential to be very handy: flash, expandable memory, superior camera, mp3 playback etc. Plus the phone has a better display.

The reality is that I don't need anymore then a phone, the other features are things that I might find useful, but is it worth $75 to $100 (from what I can tell) for ANOTHER clamshell? Are those features really neccessay or will the L6 do me?

Input please

p.s. before anyone suggests the W600i, I checked, its way out of my price range as is the SLVR L7

I personally dont like the L6 (Never had it but I just dont like it) Though I had the v635 and it was a superb phone. Exellent reception and very good battery life. I would recommend the V635 over the L6 simply because it looks better/solid built and has overall better features.

I'd say the L7 would be a much better comparison choice to use against the v635 as opposed to the L6. The L7 and v635 match each over for features and the v635 has a better camera (1.3 mp vs .3 for the L7). Both have the TF card (L6 none).

If your primary concern is basic phone performance without the mp3 player functions, the L6 will do the trick nicely. For more toys, look to the v635 or the L7.

Have a look here.

All 3 phones are listed side-by-side for easy reference.

Good luck.

The problem with the L7 is its out of my price range right now...too new. Plus it seems I am paying more then a V635 for a VGA camera and iTunes, which I have not interest in. The whole music thing isn't really necessary, as I have an iPod but I think the flash might be a useful thing. I hate to add another phone to the mix now, but what about the ROKR E1?

Posted by: a2kt1c

The only thing bad about the ROKR is the VGA Cam, other then that it is a exellent phone. I had the ROKR E1 Before.

Posted by: EChid

ok, some it sounds like the ROKR is better, the V635's cam sucks for 1.23mp anyway, but I still have a few final questions:

Everyone here seems to have very praise for the W600i, is it really good enough to add anything a ROKR can't? Is it worth alllllllllllllll that money?

p.s. does anyone know a good place to get these phones (used if possible) in Canada?

Posted by: a2kt1c

I dont know where to get them in Canada as I live in the U.S. And for the w600i. Im planning to getting one soon. The w600i has alot of equal features as to the ROKR if not better. So I would choose the w600i over the ROKR anyday. And one more thing. What makes you think the v635 cam sucks? I personally think its pretty good. I dont see nothing wrong with it.

Posted by: EChid

I meant for a 1.23mp, I looked at the pics of Mobile-review.com and they didn't look great, although I admit...its not at the sucky level, however, having said that the W600's cam is worse.

Posted by: a2kt1c

Yeah Ive heard the pics taken with the w600i is somewhat "noisy" and kind of "blurry".

Well!! I wuld hve suggested L7 but now when u say that it’s out of range then I wuld suggest go for ROKR ……as per the reviews it seems to be better then the V635…….and w600i the camera is below average pictures taken indoor were quiet fuzzy....... the outdoor pictures were are ok but still sharpness and focus is below average…….

Posted by: EChid

the ROKR seems good to me as well, somehow the L6 also grabs me everytime I look at it, its so unique in design. Does anyone know of other non-clamshells with megapixel cameras?

Posted by: EChid

nevermind, I can answer my own question on that score. The only problem I can see with the Rokr is paying for a phone that is almost the same price as the V635 but lacks the mp camera.

My input:

Lets break it down.

You have an iPod.
You have a budget constraint
You are bored of clamshells.
You did a PHONE for the very purpose of a phone..TALK

SO...
Unless you are a photo buff
Unless you want to use your fone memory (MMC) as portable personal drive
Unless you want to buy something just coz it is affordable

You can go for the L6...its stylish, a basic phone, decent battery life, non-inflammable to the pockets. If you really want to go for all those fancy apps and features, its better to go for a decent smartfone...

last challenge for you guys: is there a point to sacrificing a good screen, like in the V3, for the candybar form factor in the L6? Otherwise the V3 is about the same price but with a better screen.

Posted by: Milkbone98

If you want to see a L6 screen, look at a v220. They both suck. yeah, I know I have one. The only reason is I traded a v600 straight up for it. The RF doesnt seem to be as good as my Razr either.

Posted by: EChid

the only thing I don't want about the L6 is the screen...what I want is the candy bar form but not if the screen is as crappy as it is. Maybe I should just wait for prices on the L7 to fall.

Posted by: Milkbone98

Dont get me wrong, its still functional, just not as nice as I would prefer. Dont let it stop you from getting the phone, they're a steal at $140.

I think you should...The L7's are about 240 USD right now (on EBAY) wo/TF Card and $260 USD w/ TF Card. I might consider getting one as well.

The W600i is a Sony Ericsson. You can't really compare it to a Motorola because its going to be miles better. The software is easy to use, the phone is full-featured and the features are easy to use. The only thing is that the Cingular firmware ****s with the phone. The W600i costs similar to the L7 but you don't have to worry about getting memory for it.

I wouldn't say the W600i is superior, its keypad and design don't seem to be nearly as easy or ergonomic.

Anyway, I decided to go for the V635 due to cheapness and feature set. I got it at a fairly good price too, thanks for your help everyone.

I saw on howardforums.com.com and they have the L6 for $119, the SLVR w/o the card for $219 and with a card for $229. I am no way associated with them, but I did buy a ROKR from them when it first came out and it was great. I didn't like it so I sold it on ebay, but their service was great.

Of course, they have a fairly hefty $35 shipping fee.
