PPC5050 Problem Accessing Voicemail

Greetings,
Have an PPC5050 and can not access my network voicemail. I dial in and press the # key and enter password then get a messate stating "sorry you are having trouble, operator is not available to take your call." I tried accessing another mobile voicemail that I have and same situation and same message. Carrier says that it is not a network related issue. Phone was sent out once before and came back - worked for one day and then problem reoccurred. Anyone have any ideas - is some setting on the device causing this problem?
I can access the voicemail box on a landline phone as well as other cell phones so it has to be a device thing. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.
