Help me keep my new W800i

This is my first non Nokia phone and my first Sony phone I have to say I am more than just a little frustrated in trying to get music transfer to work on this.

I bought this yesterday for my wife.

Here is what I am noticing. First of all the Disc2Phone installation that came on the CD did not work. So I downloaded it from Sony website and it seems to install and run fine.

But whenever I transfer files, i am noticing the following behavior.

Dis2Phone says all files transferred fine. but I do not see any of the artists, tracks on the phone. When I look at the memory card through the explorer window on the PC, I may see the artists directory, album directory, but no tracks.

At other times I will see one or two tracks, but not the whole album.

The funny thing is the Disc2Phone keeps saying everything transferred fine!

It has the 512M memory card inserted.

Can somebody please enlighten me what is going on. This was supposed to be a gift and I hate to have to return it.

thanks much

try using a card reader instead. the Disc2Phone is not that reliable

Yeah get a card reader, they are widely sold on EBAY.

Make sure you do the "safely remove hardware" option in Windows before disconnecting the cable - I've found that files sometime don't update properly unless you do this.

Yea just use a card reader... It's faster and more reliable. I think there's a problem with ID3 tags when you use Disc2Phone...

Isn't this that usb issue we talked about before?
Have you updated your firmware using the update software? It does help a bit and boosts the volume a bit. (along with id tags for aac files)
Make sure you have the update drivers installed. (different than usb drivers.)
Turn off the phone, hold c and plug in the usb cable.
Here is the update driver.
You might have to go to the device manager to install it.

Here is the software.
Download and run. Follow the instructions. May take a little while.

I've had no problems just dragging and dropping artistfolder/disknamefolder/mp3tracks directories to the removable drive that gets added in explorer.. (hope that made sense) All of my music collection was mp3'd anyway tho. Dunno if disk2phone does that for you or whatever. I haven't installed it.

when i had my w800 back in the day i just used the mass storage feature.
Copying and pasting music and video files
Worked perfectly fine

Yep. Just update your firmware to the most recent version (R1AA008) and this problem will stop.

Wanted to give you an update.

Ok, I finally did as you guys suggested. Copied the files onto the memory card using PC reader. That seemed to work ok. Originally I when i was trying to copy using the file explorer via the usb connection, the folders and directories got corrupted. May be it was because disc2phone was connected at the same time, even though it was not transferring anything at that time.

Anyway after reading other discussions I decided to try to update the firmware using the Update Service. It just wont work on my laptop (another discussion thread) and kept failing. Eventually I installed the SW on another home PC and somehow the update worked this time.

Since then I have not tried the Disc2Phone or direct USB transfer. I just loaded up the mp3 files using the PC card reader. I dont see much point of Disc2Phone at this point.

yup card reader is the way to go

i was just wondering is a card reader the things u buy that u plug like sd cards and stuff in. because i have one on my printer i hope it is compatable with the memory stick cards that coem with the se w800i

Posted by: sashimi

yeah card readers are like that. you need to make sure your reader can handle memory sticks. The w800i bundle comes with an adapter for fitting the duo stick in the regular memory stick card readers. Not knowing anything about your printer, I would guess you also need to make sure you can actually copy content (music) from the PC to cards plugged into the printer. I do not have any printer like that but I think most of them are for reading pictures off the card. Not sure how flexible they are for transferring media from PC to the card.
