Im thinking about buying a Sidekick 2 that my friend says the backlight doesnt work. He's offering it up pretty cheap like $100, will I be able to take the phone to a Tmobile store and get the backlight repaired for a reasonable price? Thanks for the input.

Backlight is usually covered by the Manufacturers 1-year limited Warranty. In most cases, the LCD becomes defective and needs replacement.

Does it matter if I wasn't the original purchaser of the phone? I was told by a Tmobile store that because I wasn't the original purchaser I couldnt get the warranty work done.

yes warranty technically is NON transferable, but it also depends on how t-mo gives you warranty, do they reference it on your account, or do you get a "receipt" or Warranty card/certificate/papers instead? cus if you get warranty paper documentation, some carriers do not put hte customers name on it so technically its still can be honoured
