(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: bahiaeternal

hey guys the silver keypad is now available and I was wondering if there are any instructions out there to switch out the keypad.

Posted by: robocellkid

where did u find the silver keypad? ask the people selling it whether u can remove it or not

Posted by: bahiaeternal

on cnn.cn they have it. Ive emailed them before about other parts and they told me then that they don't have instructions. I know someone on here before took a part there L7 but I don't think he did a how too. A silver keypad on a black L7 would look

thanks JOnb, that would be awsome, thanks for help

Posted by: robocellkid

yeah i have the regular OEM keypad on my slvr. i saw the cingular ones that have silver and they look a LOT better.
post some pics if u can. Thanks!

Posted by: bahiaeternal

while examining my L7 i think it would be a easy swap. I just need to figure out if you can just prop open the front face or if the back needs to be taken apart to get access to the front.

Posted by: CoRupT

The L7 from cingulas a bronze keypad as well so i dont know whats the difference i have a cingular branded unlocked and a unbranded version and there the same color. Its not very hard to take apart the phone but i didnt make a guide ive took apart the L7 from cingular to unlock and basically stripped the phone down into little pieces lol its easy just be carefull and dont break anything

cnn.cn offers a silver keypad inaddition to the bronze one. Any chance you want to give us some pointers please on taking it apart if we only want to swap out the keypad, I don't want to take the whole phone apart.

Posted by: robocellkid

yeah same here. i don't want to take apart the whole phone to swap the keypad

I found how to disassemble it.

I saw it in the gsmserver.com forums.

ah that stinks

Posted by: CoRupT

It isnt too much work. Just be careful dont lose anything and theres only 8 screws to take out and the hardest part i think is removing the front plate off but its easy once you get the hang of it

I don't think you even have to take the back off. I think you can pry the front plate off with the right tool. It just snaps in, theres nothing screwed.

Boot-Loader uploaded the Service Manual. http://forum.gsmserver.com/showthre...sted=1#post6931

It looks hard. I never disassembled my phone before. Im assmign this voids teh warrenty. BUt how do they know if its voided, it doesnt tell you anything special in the service manual.

Posted by: CoRupT

It doesnt get voided unless something gets tampered with

Im afraid it wil look like ****, becuase I dont have a silver backplate nor a silver lcd lens.

Posted by: bahiaeternal

in order to replace the front plate u will have to disassemble the phone. The front plate is fastened with screws from the back of the phone. Its not snapped on.

Are you sure? Is it from experience?

Posted by: j0nb

he is correct, you do need to dissemble the whole phone, theres no fast way of doing it. I replaced mine, but didn't have my digi cam to take pictures of. My sister is suppose to give the digi back to me soon, and i'll write up a how to and place it on my page. Sorry guys for the delay, i got couple things on the go right now and trying my hardest to get everything done.

Was it easy? Wut color did u replace ur L7 housing with? Does it take long? Sorry for all the questions but I'm eager to see it and do it to my own!

Posted by: j0nb

i didnt replace the housing, just my keypad, i have an asian keypad, which i replaced with the oem black US keypad. It was pretty easy, at same time, if its your first time taking apart a motorola phone, then theres a chance you may break the housing. Its simple if you have done it before, if not then it may be harder.

Posted by: robocellkid

Never done it. I just entered the world of "editing ur phone beyond wallpaper and ringers" haha jk. I've done more but not hardware-wise. If u can post some pics/how-to's of the keypad swap, it;d be gr8. If u ever change the housing, let me know! I am planning on swapping out my housing for a silver one from cnn.cn

Posted by: bahiaeternal

robocellkid or anyone else who is interested I have a silver keypad, oem faceplate and antenna cover that I order from cnn.cn that i won't be using. i got 2 sets but my friend doesn't want to change his anymore. Ill let it all go for 22 shipped. Email is bahiaeternal@msn.com

Hey I am kind of interested. Not locked yet. I have a couple questions though...did u swap out ur housing and keypad urself? Was it hard or easy? Will I need any extra tools? Does the housing include all plates (front, back, and lower back)?
Thanks!

Posted by: bahiaeternal

housing includes front plate andbottom antenna cover. There is no silver battery cover yet, but the guy at cnn.cn said hes working on getting them. I swapped mine out and it looks phat. I don't have a camera but ill try to get one. U will need phone disammbly tool (which all it is a plastic tool that has a flat end like a flat head screw driver) and u will need a tor driver with a T3 bit (mini screwdriver) and a another screw driver with a T6 bit. Im sure u can get them at radioshack. My dad had these tools I have to idea why. From a scale of 1 to 10 i give it a 6/7 for a newbie. I took my time and didn't rush thats the key. Don't get frustrated. Its a cool upgrade, my blck slvr looks like the ones on ebay now that have the silver keypad.

Posted by: robocellkid

O alright thanks for the reply
I'm gonna think about this and I might get back to u on this
Thanks again

Posted by: bahiaeternal

no problem Robo..Still available if anyone else want these silver items for there L7

Posted by: Johnny217818

When I took aprat my phone, the keypad is very thin and cool. Its like paper.

Bahiaeternal... where do you live? I live in Texas and if your closer to mmy state[cnn is at hong kong] then ill cancel my order, becuas eit still says processing.

Posted by: bahiaeternal

Posted by: robocellkid

Posted by: robocellkid

You have to take out the front plate of the L7 and thats it!!!
1. remove main PCB Main board
2. Dissasemble the front housing
3. change keypad
4. reassemble

Posted by: 24fps

I posted a text tutorial on how to dissassemble the phne it is actually quite simple. here is the link
