v3x ---> 850mhz?

Alright, i need this cleared up. I've heard from several people that with some kind of mod, you can add 850mhz to the v3x. True?

And also, is the user interface the same as older motos?
(v635, e398 etc)

no...but there are rumours that v3x with 850 will be released in states

well u can activate the north america band. i have it activated on mine and the signal seems to be stronger but i still dont know if it unlocked the 850mhz band or not. people at motox did this too but no one seems to know for sure whether the 850mhz band is either hidden and can be unlocked by software mods or if it's lacking in hardware. i say this because the phone already has a 1900mhz band so for them to put a specific configuration labelled north america makes me think that the 850mhz band is in the phone. i'm probably wrong but people at motox who are much more experienced with this stuff than i am dont seem to know for sure either. so i guess we just gotta wait a bit longer and see what happens.

cube -> when's the v3x coming to north america anyways? i thought no one was gonna carry it cuz no one had a 3g network. cingular just developed theirs in major cities i think but they only carry 1 3g phone. and i dont think rogers will develop it anytime soon in canada so i doubt we'll get it in canada.

Just because it's an option, doesn't allow you the ability to enable the band for each and every Motorola that was ever made. Maybe you've heard of something known as restriction(s)?

Posted by: danktrees

yes but there are different types of restrictions such as a SOFTWARE restriction and a HARDWARE restriction. if it is a software restriction, then editting seems can enable it. and no one mentioned anything about it enabling the band on every single motorola u just made that up urself.

finding out if it's supported in hardware is as simple as finding a block diagram for a v3x, which would be contained in the level 3 service manual.

just gotta find one of those =/

Actually, it's not that simple. Take the E398 for example, it has the hardware for 850, but a seem edit will not activate it. Only certain flashes will.

If I had to guess, I would say the V3X does not have the hardware for 850. This phone was never intended for the US market, and the phone that will make it overseas has re-done hardware for HSDPA. It would seem to me, that there would be no sense in adding 850 hardware to a phone that would never see the states until it gets re-engineered.

but then why does it have that north america band option if they never intended to release it in north america.
