Hi
Im wondering if someone can help me with bitmin on the LG VX9800. I cant get the program to see my phone. I set the bluetooth for "pc", etc. It seems like my computer is paired with the phone via bluetooth, but cant get into files, etc. I think its the bluetooth serial settings, etc. on the compter ,but not sure. I have the com port set to auto in Bitpim program , but i believe i need to manually load a setting in the com settings. Im using Mac OSX 10. 3--, and dont know where to find the com settings for bluetooth serial on the computer . If someone can help i would appreciate it,the bitpim website appears to lack Macintosh info as well.
Thanks, Mike

Make sure BT on the phone and the Mac are on. Make sure the two are paired. You can see this on the phone under "Bluetooth->Paired Devices", and on the Mac under "Preferences->Bluetooth->Devices." Under the "Devices" tab you should see your phones name and a red heart. If those are all good then select your phone and you should see the following information if you set it up correctly:
Device Name: Your VX9800 (your phones name will be here)
Device Address: 00-00-00-00-00-00 (your phones address will be here)
Device Type: Phone
Device Services: Voice Gateway, BT DIAG, Dial-Up Networking Gateway, OBEX Object Push, Voice Gateway
Paired: Yes
Configured: Yes
Favorite: Yes
Connected: No
Serial Port: Yes
If that's all good then make sure your phone is still selected at the top and then select the "Edit Serial Ports..." button on the right. You should see a couple of ports set up at the top. One of them should be something like "YourVX9800-BTDIAG-1." This is the serial port to select in BitPIM. Remember it. Close up System Preferences. Run BitPIM. After it's up and you don't see "BUSY" down in the bottom left corner anymore select "Bitpim->Preferences." Make sure the "LG-VX9800 (Verizon Wireless)" phone is selected in that drop down. Next click the "Browse..." button for the Com Port. When it's done saying "Refreshing" look at the top of the dialog. You'll see a sizer dot right in the middle under the "c" in the word "comm". This is what screwed me up for an hour. I didn't see that sucker! Click and hold down on the sizer dot and pull it down. You'll see a list of com ports. You may have to scroll the upper part of the window up to see the port I said to remember (YourVX9800-BTDIAG-1.) Select it. Click OK at the bottom. Click OK in the settings dialog. After all the dialogs are closed go up to the "Edit" menu and select "Phone Info." If you set everything up correctly you should see your model, ESN and Firmware version. It was the damn sizer dot that got me. I knew I should be able to see the port in that box but couldn't and had no idea why. Then I just noticed it, pulled it down and I was on the way. Let us know how it goes. BTW, I'm running 10.4.5 on an iMac G5 20" iSight and 10.4.5 on an old iBook G3 (Tangerine). Using built in BT on the iMac and an IOGear $20.00 BT USB dongle on the iBook. Both work flawlessly.

GREAT post which helped finally detect my 8100 on BitPim via my Mac. But! It is driving me insane that I have to enter my "vCards" from the Mac address book ONE AT A TIME into BitPim. When you select multiple entries, only one shows up in the Phone Book window in BitPim. Control key doesn't work, only the Apple key.
All I'm trying to do is move my phone book from a BT-enabled Moto V551 to the VX-8100, and I've already moved its phone book, one entry at a time (grrrrr) into the Mac's address book over BT (since it and the LG won't speak to each other). But I can't believe I have to do it one at a time AGAIN on the way to the 8100. Anyone know how to do this?!?

Not sure but I think what you're seeing is a limitation of BitPim. I haven't really tried what you're talking about so I can't say for sure. But, ain't there always a 'but', I found this in of all places the Address Book Help file:
Sending information from your address book to a Bluetooth device
You can wirelessly copy cards from your address book to cell phones, handheld devices, and other Bluetooth enabled devices that are paired with your computer.
For more information about pairing Bluetooth devices or using Bluetooth, open Bluetooth File Exchange, located in Applications/Utilities, and choose Help > Bluetooth Help.
If you are sending information to your own device, it's recommended that you use iSync. If you are sending information to someone else's device, follow the instructions below.
To send contact information to a Bluetooth device:
Select a contact in Address Book, then choose Card > Send This Card.
In the Bluetooth window that appears, select the device that you want to send the contact information to. Then select the method used to send the information, usually "OBEX Object Push."
After a moment, the device you selected will receive the card. You'll need to accept the transfer to save the card.
If the device doesn't respond, try deleting the pair and then pairing with it again. To delete the pair, click Devices in Bluetooth preferences, choose Paired Devices from the Show pop-up menu, select the device, and click Delete Pairing. Then pair with it again.
After you get all your VCards on the phone, just use BitPim and "Get" the address book from the phone. There you go. BTW, the iSync thing don't work. Our phone isn't supported. But the "Send this Card...", "Send these Cards..." thing does work just fine. I just did it.

I use my 9800 on an iMac. I do take care of my wifes 7000 (which used to be mine) on XP Pro. It works fine. I haven't had a chance (or a reason) to use the 9800 on XP though. Have you followed the Setup/FAQ Sticky on the VX9800 that's here? Try doing the entire cable based setup for BitPim over again.

Ok...my first post so please be patient.. I have searched all over for the answer and cannot find it.. I recently had to take back my VX9800 and exchange it. I used VZNavigator quite a bit and apparently had a software glitch which screwed my phone up.. But- before i switched it out, I could connect my phone to the bluetooth adapter on my computer and use the "Bluetooth serial port" to connect it to BitPim. With my new VX9800.. Both are version 2 but, I can PAIR.. but there is no Bluetooth serial port in my services. The only ones that pop up are DUN gateway, Voice Gateway, OBEX object Push. There, on the last phone, when paired, would be a fourth which was the serial port. Not anymore. IF SOMEONE, could please help me figure this out. I am trying to include all needed info. I am using Windows XP Sp2, bluetooth adapter (internal), HP ZD8080us, VX9800 V2..I didnt do anything different from last time so i dunno whats wrong..Thank you very much, Chris

if you go through the XP config for bluetooth it'll list all the ports, including com ports. it'll say which one to use (probably labeled BT DIAG).
