FINALLY I FREAKING FOUND IT!

The Sharp 703. A phone that I can use in the States or Japan — WITH JAPANESE INPUT. Christ I can't believe providers in the states have STILL not caught that English is not the only language in this country. Damned monkey marketers.

Now, if only I could find a such a phone that operated on Sprint or Verizon....

Hahahahaha!! Where have you been the past.. couple years? There have been phones for a while now that have Japanese input and can work in both the States and Japan. The Sharp V802SH comes to mind, but there are many others.

The 703 isn't quite the "holy grail". It's on the lower end of Vodafone's 3G lineup. Try taking a look at the Sharp 903 or the new 904 (being released soon), as they also have Japanese input but have many more (improved) features.

Yeah but it's damn new to me! Last christmas I was going ape***** trying to see if I could get one of au's phones on Sprint or Verizon for my wife (ending up settling for a sammy a880 on sprint). I always ran into the "Japanese phones can't operate in the states - period" dogma. This is revelation. Are Sharps the only phones that I can use in Japan and the States (w/ J-input)?

no.. there is some sony ericssons that can do it to.. such as the Sony Ericsson V802Se

Where do you buy these phones unlocked and un-modded? I only found a couple V802SEs on ebay, and they were "upgraded" with chinese firmware; that doesn't help me. I need Japanese.

you can unlock with japnese firmware on it.

most ppl convert to z800i or something else cause they don't read japanese.. but there is a japanese option available if you were to buy one of those.

i even carry them in stock too..
