XV6700 — How to avoid Verizon customization, more memory & features.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: oleg106

This is actually pretty simple and does not require any hacks whatsoever.

What you will get:
Unbranded phone without any Verizon customization
More memory, ~10MB more for me. The MMS package alone uses around 4MB.
No Verizon links, no EVDO, no bs.
You can still install the customizations later if you need any of them, I don’t.
More features. The phone application alone has like 4 new services to play with.
Wifi & phone can be used at the same time, no need to edit the registry.
Possibly obex and other crap Verizon took out.

Steps:

Hard reboot the phone. This is done by holding the two soft keys and pressing the reset button. Hit "Y" to continue.
Go through the screen calibration, zone and password screens. When you get to the "Complete" blue screen where it asks you to tap to start using the device, put the stylus on the reset button but don't press it. Tap on the screen. You will get a message saying that the OEM (Verizon) customizations will be installed on 3 seconds. Hit reset as soon as you see the message and you're all set. When the phone reboots you will have a fully functional and unbranded phone without all the garbage Verizon adds to it. Wifi/phone can be used at the same time, there are no longer any locks. Obex may work as well, I have no way to test it. Also, you get some extra menu items here and there. Works flawlessly.

If you do need some of the crap Verizon installs, open up the Extended ROM partition and install it by clicking on the cabs. Don't run the remove. cab.

You do need to be careful with this, since there are some .cab files you may need from the extended ROM. On the SPCS side we have narrowed down which .cab files can go and which ones have to stay, mainly ones that allow apps to be installed (security keys). So once again be careful with this.

I've been using it without any cabs for over a day, I think they're all optional. The phone seems to work faster too.

I really want to try this but I think it might be a bit too risky....anyone else have any experience in this area?

Can you update your phone to the local romaing still by doing *228?

What about dialing 611?

Posted by: DearOldDad

Any one know if this will work on the 6600?

Posted by: KrispyV710

what about undoing this feature...is there a way to isolate the verizon.cab file and run it later....also, if you hard reset after this will it go back to vzw?

There is no risk to doing this. After you hard reset the phone, it runs a batch file that executes all the Verizon customizations. You would simple interrupt the batch process to cancel the installs. I've had this setup for 4 days now and everything works fine, there isn't anyting missing. You can always hard reset it again without interruption to have the old Verizon setup. Also, the needed cabs can be run after the interrupted hard reset, but I have not found any cabs I need. One of the cabs adds the wifi/phone and other restrictions. Another one adds a Verizon link to PIE, etc. They are all bs.

Of course. This is a CDMA phone and they're designed for these features. Alltel XV6700 has 0 customizations, which is what you will have if you avoid the script.

Dunno if the OP is still watching this thread, but... 2 questions:

How would i access the extended ROM cabs, etc. after removing the VZ stuff?
Do you have "Device Lock" on the today screen after removing the VZ stuff?

Thanks,
Mike

Posted by: KrispyV710

I just followed this procedure, it worked as it was supossed to, but I did loose my MMS abilitys, I need to figure a way to remove what I want, and keep what I want...extended rom here I come

Accessing the extended ROM is easy, you just need to goto registry and change 2 keys to unhide it. When this is done, reset and you will see the Extended ROM in File Explorer. From there, you can run all the needed cabs. No need to run any ROM unlockers, files cannot be deleted from this partition so there is no risk of losing anything. Btw, the MMS stuff takes up like 5MB. I don't use it and see no reason to pay Verizon money to send these useless messages.

"How would i access the extended ROM cabs, etc. after removing the VZ stuff?" You are not removing anything, you're just not installing the customizations.

"Do you have "Device Lock" on the today screen after removing the VZ stuff?"
Not sure what you mean by device lock. Everything works like it should.

i would consider doing this, but i've got mine tweaked JUST the way i like it =\

Posted by: jayjones

I've tried this 3 times now and it does not work. After I do the reset, I still get the Verizon brand

Posted by: jayjones

Got it to work!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!

Posted by: The Mac Ace

i did it, and god DAMN, what a difference! its like night and day!!!!
this thing FLIES now!

slightly off topic-i have a copy of the sprint 2.13 rom or whatevre 2.0 ver it is... anyone want to risk trying it on their vz phone and then using the unbranding trick?

Posted by: Ninja4Hire

Does anybody know what files do what in the extended rom? I did the hardboot and unlocked my rom, but I'm not usre what files do what. I installed them one by one but some of the files didn't seem like they made any changes. (but I know they did)

one more thing: if you install all the programs manually from the rom, you can only uninstall some of them from the remove programs app.

Customization Customiz_100200
Arcsoft Arcsoft MMS
Sync Client
Customization VZWProvision

Posted by: The Mac Ace

which of the cabs installs the wireless sync client?

Posted by: PPCMD

This is awesome. I don't use the MMS or need the Verizon garbage either. Thanks.

Posted by: PPCMD

The Resco File today plug in actually makes it easier to access the Extd Rom file. So if I choose not to load any of the crapola Verizon puts on it what is the data connection configuration so I can manually set up my EVDO?

Posted by: clubmyke

can you still use evdo when with this procedure ?

thanks !!!

Posted by: The Mac Ace

yep i set it up in about 30 seconds. was easy.

Posted by: PPCMD

I figured it out as well. one of the settings didn't save and a quick soft reset with storage cards visible on my today screen with Resco Today Plugin showed me what I needed. Ultimately I put all of the plugs in except for the MMS one. I have the settings running, but would like to know more about the others and what the settings are to manually configure the data connection so I don't have to run their provision stuff.

Posted by: timGSU

PPCMD, you have the 700w or the 6700 or both? :-)

Posted by: The Mac Ace

ppcmd, hit me up on one of my messaging services--ill walk you through manual data configuration

Posted by: Xterra13

Here is what I did to re-enable the EVDO connection.

1. Open Settings and select the connections tab.
2. Click connections.
3. Add a new modem connection.
4. Name the connection whatever you want.
5. Select Cellular Line as the modem.
6. Enter #777 as the number to dial.
7. Leave the user name, password, and domain blank.
8. Click Finish
9. Open PIE and navigate to a website. The connection should prompt you for user name and password. Leave everything blank and select remember password. Now you should have a working EVDO connection that doesn’t prompt you for credentials.

If anyone has done it differently please let me know.

Posted by: The Mac Ace

the evdo username should be urphone num @vzw3g.comf
ie 5552345333@vzw3g.com
and the password is vzw
there is no domain

Posted by: PPCMD

Thanks guys. I will give that a shot.

Posted by: jayjay139

hmm...first when I hold the 2 keys (you mean the hard keys above the start call end call keys that are marked "-". right? it does show a "verizon" screen with several things marked on it at the bottom like "H/W=2; M=12 ; U=4; P smaz-xxxxx" etc. Is this still expected?

Also, I had done the delete the data network connect (#777) thing and set up my home wireless network. Can I still add a new #777 with a prompt to password that I have to press ok (so I know its using the data plan) for text and pictures when I want to my verizon family members, instead of having to email?

and, what effect does *228 have now?

Jack

Posted by: CPC_Seth

Is Alltels 6700 capable of this as well? Was thinking about gettng someone to try it on theirs but I dont know if it has the same restrictons that Verizons has.

Yes that is the same screen I get when resetting the device.

You can have both the #777 and wireless connections setup but only one connection active at a time. To be prompted for the password leave the password field blank or uncheck the remember password field in the connection settings.

I can still update the phone through *228

All i care for is the MMS capability.

You can download the wireless sync software from:

http://ota.wsync.com

Do any of y'all know which cab i can install to get the timesync back. thats the only other thing that i want, but dont know which cab is which.

Posted by: clubmyke

this really helps out alot !!! many thanks !!!

also increased the glypcache and using cpuscalar - really speeds up the machine.

So, after the hard reset, no verizon stuff and resetting up #777 connection, does this cab give back the ability to send a picture or vid message via mms (ie the send will now have back the choice hotmail, outlook AND MMS)?

Also, what is the "glypcache and using cpuscalar" what do you do and any down side?

Lastly (for now) is there a registry edit for the battery to last longer? I read about one around here for another phone where it checks to see if there's a phone call less often.?

Jack

Posted by: clubmyke

there is another thread on the form of programs that work that explains how to increase the glyphcache and the add on to speed up the machine.

i just use my 6700 for web & email (no phone & no verizon sync).

Posted by: jayjay139

Ill look for that thread...but for now....how do I reset up the phone to let me send mms pic to my familys phone. (got the cellular modem #777 setup again and installed wireless sync). Seems like lots of choices on the wirless sync menu. Have resko explorer and regedit installed as well.

I have followed the instructions to rid my XV6700 of Verizon "features" and love it. The only one I miss is the feature that prevents all buttons except the power button from turning the device back on when it is off. Anyone know how to get this back without running one of the cabs?

Same question. My phone is sooooo much better now, however, I really a solution to the above problem as well. Anyone???

Figured it out, go to settings, under buttons, and at the bottom there is a tab that lets you select the correct settings.

Posted by: mentalcase

This is the way the xv6700 should be. Quick, Responsive, and full useable with out the vzw bull. I did this last night and even using it for a little while i feel the changes in the device. Well done guys, but are there any clues on what we might possibly need to install?

Posted by: tAjh2009

i can no longer go on the internet through verizon after i did this, also, where is the extended rom stuff (im trying to fix this on my brothers phone. he wanted me to try this)

Posted by: jayjay139

arg...Everything was fine, but I've lost pocket msn. The setting are all greyed out and the icon in programs is gone. Just want to use hotmail and be able to attach files. (signing in with pocket ie doesn't offer attachment)
If it can be done with new account in messaging, what is the type (pop3?) and server settings? (I have also installed spbpocket plus, and backup)
thanks,
Jack

Does this procedure address the following:
1. Bluetooth voice commands?
2. 802.11b turned off when phone is on?
3.

Posted by: zuperman2002

I've seen a lot about this but no link or direction on where to find this.
Please help!

Start->Settings->Buttons
Click on the "Lock" tab at the bottom, you can barely see it.
Change it "Lock all buttons except Power button."

That was posted on page two, I think. Read the whole page. If you're *that* lazy, search page two for #777

Posted by: safet

ok so I got rid of vzw crapware a little earlier 2nite and installed a few apps which all worked fine. I tried to edit the registry to access the extended rom but I think I did something wrong, ill play with that again tomorrow. My MAJORRR problem is after every soft reset I lose all my text msgs and all the email settings I put in. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there anyway to fix it?

edit: I forgot to mention I have a XV6700 but I guess that's redundant in this thread

Posted by: flacab23

What do the different .cab install do which ones should I install ect.

Posted by: 68bucks

I tried this and it works pretty good but I need to have wireless start back up after a soft reset like it did before. This device is used for company email and I really don't want to have to restart the program after a reset

Posted by: apple85

I can't wait to get my 6700 and see how this works! So the final on the MMS feature with Verizon after doing this, does it work or doesn't it?

Posted by: SickNick

im on the phone with verizon switchin to a buisness plan with unlimited data, i am feining for the xv6700. 1 thing i hate about the verizon one, is that bluetooth is locked for object transfering, lets say i buy the UTStarComm version of the phone, can i turn it into a verizon phone nd use it? i would guess no cuz they need a verizon esn. i think the phone looks a lil better in silver also so thats y i was thinking to buy the unlocked version. if i do the hard reset trick will the bluetooth object transfer b available??? please reply, i havent been soft hacking phones in a while i gotta start again lol.

i bought the verizon 6700 and i unlocked it, i unlocked the rom, which 1 is the mms installer???, and i also need to know how to get the OBEX bluetooth working. i cant seem to find anything on it

Posted by: cryogenic

as far as I know, there is no way to enable OBEX. However, you can activesync over bluetooth (it's kind of a pain to setup) which is about as close to obex as you'll get with this phone currently. Also, the MMS installer is the one that is named Signed_MMS3.0... Just install that cab and it should work fine.

VZWProvision.PPC400_257... is supposedly the wireless sync installer, though I have no idea for sure as I don't use it. Customize_105201.sa.CAB is the one you DO NOT want to install as it disables wifi/phone use at the same time, disables the extra services in the phone app and all that bad stuff. However, it DOES enable the ## codes in the phone app that just plain won't work otherwise.

Posted by: SickNick

heres whati got with obex so far, i was able to send a pic from my phone to another motorla bluetooth phone that can send nd receive through obex, when it went to send to me, it said something like device feature not available. baisically ive noticed that the phone has like no bluetooth services, my vx9800 had a few services like dun, and serial. when i list the services for the 6700 none come up there was some post around here where the guy said he got obex working i gotta find it.

and here it goes
http://ppc6700users.com/forums/view...=bluetooth+obex

what i noticed in the obex registry is that it says services and then after opening the other registry folder there mime types, after openning that, it says vcal and vcard, maybe those r the only services registered???????

Posted by: illrunuover

how could i use this so that i can send pix messages but not be able to log into verizons data service whitch charges me as i go ?

Posted by: illrunuover

can somone please show me step by step how to acces the extended rom in a more intuitive way??

Here is a breakdown on each of the Verizon Cabs and what they do

Posted by: muldrick

I read this thread twice....<confused>

My text messaging doesn't work, is this why? (I did this setup as soon as I got the phone, so I don't know if my text messaging ever worked)

How do I re-enable my test messaging, especially to send pics

Posted by: Chamberz

I wanna get my contacts out of my v710 to my xv6700 can anyone help me im me on aim or my yahoo if u can

Posted by: andril

What are they? We all want to dump the Verizon crap - I just want the Wi-Fi, POP3, Phone TXT and hardware to work properly(not a data plan user) - but what's the downside? This actually sounds great! but I want to know if I am comprimising something here. I noticed these cabs were mentioned:

# Enable_RingTone.sa.CAB

* Enables ringtone plugin player for PocketIE

# Region.sa.CAB

* Sets up time zone information
* Customizes regional Windows settings

# Remove.sa.CAB

* Removes Uninstall entries for Extended ROM applications

# Link.sa.CAB

* Links IE softkey to IE application

Are these the files I should keep and how do I keep them after the Hard Reset - most of all is this easy to reverse. I apologize but I just replaced this unit after a tech at VZN screwed up my last one by dropping it.

Thanks In Advance

I did the "avoid vzw stuff" and I still have time zone info, this is part of WM5, I also have the IE link key - not a softkey but the "E" key on the side of the phone - is that what you meant?

I have only had my phone a few days now so forgive me if I totally missed your point...

not the power button on the top of the phone, pull out the stylus and put it in the little hole on the bottom left to soft reset once the "customization" stuff comes up. Essentially you're doing a "soft reset" once the customization window pops up. An illustrated method of doing this soft reset is in the user manual for your phone.

Also, for a hard reset, a similar procedure is done. You hold the two "soft keys" (to the left of the windows key and to the right of the "ok" key.. again, illustrated in the manual) and while still holding them, take the stylus and put it in the hole as though you were doing a soft reset. That will essentially wipe the phone clean.

Posted by: buberskin

Thanks Cryo I really appreciate the gesture. Can't believe you answered that question......I figured it out after browsing postings a while longer.....I learned alot in two days but by no means a pro........I got rid of the customizations did some reg edits....got some free programs from www.freecabs.de and used tweaks2k2 <<<that was so easy......

The only problem I have is my activesync it wont work....when I click the icon in the system tray it says :
"WCESMgr.exe The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate application."

I tried uninstalling it and it says "Fatal error during installation" I downloaded ActiveSync 4.2 from microsoft.com and installed it but when I go to Add/Remove Programs it says I have Active Sync 4.0?????

Any help would be so appreciated

WIll this effect the aku 2.0 direct push feature on the new rom? The removing Verzion customization that is.

I just signed up with an exchange server and would like the direct push feature as I can imagine the battery drain polling every 5 minutes.

Thanks.

Hey Xterra13 (or anyone else that can help) I am using a XV 6700 with the latest ROM and recently something happened with my settings and now I regularly have a pop up prompt for a password to connect the Data Connection. I have had made numerous settings changes trying to stop this prompt but nothing seems to work.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I'm not sure if anyone is still watching this thread, but do you lose everything on the pda when you do the hard reboot? If so, will everything sync back over without the verizon customizations?

perhaps its becauze i'm new to this..what r the two soft keys??

Posted by: joyridevzw

Perhaps I am just tired.

1. did anyone give a real answer on getting MMS to work again?

2. Was there a mention of a program to use to get into the extended rom? Or for that matter how do I get into it?

If these have been mentioned please point me in the right direction

Perhaps I am just tired.

1. did anyone give a real answer on getting MMS to work again?

2. Was there a mention of a program to use to get into the extended rom? Or for that matter how do I get into it?

If these have been mentioned please point me in the right direction

Yes the MMS software (CAB file), is in the Hidden Extended ROM area.

If you make that area visible you can reinstall MMS from there. See my next message for the REG keys.

I have always used these two entries on my XV6700 with success ... regardless of what version ROM.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000000

After making the reg changes turn off your device for a few seconds, then turn it back on and do a soft reset.

You can set the EVDO to maintain a constant connection by making the following registry change:

Quote:
GPRS always on

If you want your GPRS (or EDGE) connection to always be on, set the following:

HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 1 (DWORD decimal)

And to turn it off:

HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\|gprs connection name|\AlwaysOn = 0 (DWORD decimal)

Note that |gprs connection name| will depend on the name you've given your GPRS connection

After making this change, you may want to add this other one. This following one will add a disconnect item to the connection bubble.

Quote:
Add a 'Disconnect' button (and Timer) to the Connection List for GPRS

To add a Disconnect button:

HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 8 (DWORD decimal)

To add a Disconnect button and a timer display showing how long GRPS is in use for the session:

HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 16 (DWORD decimal)

To disable both the Disconnect button and the timer:

HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\Flags2 = 0 (DWORD decimal)

you can find alot of helpful registry edits at the following link. Understand that making registry changes can have disastrous effects if you don't know what you are doing. Be careful.

I do have a question and that is how does one remove preinstalled programs from the phone? I have found other programs that I enjoy better from Resco and MS Voice Command and I would love to remove the preinstalled versions so that memory may be freed up. The programs that I would love to uninstall are:
  • Zip
    Voice Speed Dial
    Pictures & Videos
    File Explorer

I appreciate all assistance! Thank you!

Evan

All these items are in the OS ROM area. Eliminating them won't free up any additional USER RAM.

ok...I put the mounthidden key in since it wasn't there originally..will I see the rom in file explorer like everything else?

Yes, it will be visible as EXT ROM or something similar in File Explorer; it will be READ ONLY.

Posted by: devilzpriest13

is there any way to confirm that this worked on the phone?

Posted by: Bft_tyler

so im going to be getting this phone soon and i send alot of pic and txt messages. will i beable to send pix/flix msgs and use my local wireless internet instead of paying for verizon? and i have a txt msging plan. with this "reboot" solve the txt/flix problem and the wifi thing

Posted by: Mymi

I see what I did wrong the mount hidden is in profiles..after chabging that everything is fine now...

Posted by: joyridevzw

I just unlocked the extended rom. what .cab do I run for the pix messaging?

Posted by: Mymi

apace vzw mms......cab

Posted by: psifry

Will this hack unlock the GPS locator or will I still need to purchase a separate GPS receiver and software? I really miss having the navigation capability that I had on my LG phone (I didn't mind the VZ fee).

Posted by: joyridevzw

i ran the "getMMSCtxMenuInfo" cab and did a couple soft resets. Can't find anything related to doing pix messages now

there shoud b one called something like apache_VZW_MMS...something....cab

and as far as GPS I don't think it uoxks that

Posted by: psifry

So how do you prevent Outlook and Powerpoint from being installed on the phone? I've gone thru the steps listed on the first page but these apps are still there. The only difference I see is the loss of MMS messaging and that I have to manually configure the modem.

Posted by: Bft_tyler

so after i did this i no longer have mms? if not how to i get it back

Posted by: joyridevzw

If you have the extended rom unlocked run the .cab with apachemms (pretty sure thats the name) and there ya go

Posted by: Bft_tyler

extended what rom? sorry im new at modifying this phone

Posted by: wilson.1779

So humor me if this is insanely obvious.
I read the thread and I've been searching all day for this one.
I'm gonna get rid of the Verizon crap tonight and put the text messaging back on. Here's what's really bothering me. I dont want to pay KB usage to verizon when I've got already paid for WiFi at home and basically everywhere I go.

will this elimination of Verizon crap stop them from charging me for the KB usage, something they really shouldnt be?

and, if not, does anyone know HOW i can get verizon out of my web surfing on free wifi connections?

You can disable the vzw dialup with this trick by doing.... nothing you won't have a modem configured, so it won't be able to dial onto their network, therefore no charges. However, you'll be stuck with wifi only (doesn't work for me - too many areas I am in w/o it).

As for texting - plain text msg works without any problems with nothing installed. For pix/flix, why not just email them? That doesn't need mms texting...

If you want to install some of the cabs, but aren't sure, check this link:

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...-breakdown.html

There is a list of all the cabs for the first rom and the second with descriptions of what they do. I did this, and only installed wifi and radio, region, vzwprovision (wondered if the certs were for conencting - not big anyway) and that's about it. Have about 9MB more room, though didn't notice much of a speed difference.

So do they still track the data used through wifi like they did before the reset?

They never have been able to track wifi - regardless of what they tell you. Wifi is free, evdo is pay. They want you to use evdo since it's better for them but there is no way for them to track wifi usage. I pay for the unlim plan becuase I am not always, and actually not all that frequently, in a wifi hotspot I can use and need it. Last month it would have been about $400 for the data charges had I done pay as you go ...

I just bought mine off ebay today (12/12) and I am foaming at the mouth to start modding it. I love these forums....

Posted by: OrganHero

Alrighty yall. I know this is a very old thread and I have gripped about people bumping threads in previous forums I've been on, howeverI have this phone and have done a little bit of modding to it. I came across this thread and am considering going this. I do not have any experince with these cab files, I know a lot about camera/flip phones. But this is my first experience with a PDA phone. So anyhow I want to do this 'operation' on my phone but want to not lose my MMS ability. Verizon now offers unlimited messaging so I have no problem sending these and want to keep this. So can one of you PDA experts tell me in detail how I would go about doing this wonderful modding and keep or add my MMS ability after this is done. And at the moment I am a bit lazy to look at this thread to see if you lose and imformation on the phone, I don't think you do but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks guys.

EDIT: I think I would just like to remove the bluetooth rescriction and the wfi/phone rescriction. Where would I go to do this?

Posted by: Mymi

Keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000000

once you can see the ext rom you can run the mms cab and it will allow MMS

I personally ran this way for about a 4 months then came accross PDAPHONEHOME.COM and a rom update that i have been running for quite a while frees up a ton of memory after update had 41 meg free

PDAPHONEHOME.COM

Posted by: OrganHero

Okay I read that last night. The problem is I don't know how to get to that. All I wanna do is remove the file blocking the OEBX Bluetooth ability and the Phone and Wi-Fi to run at the same time. I do not want to play around with any thing else. Seening as I have enough memory. I just want to find these files and remove em. Is there a way we can talk through an IM client?

Posted by: OrganHero

Well don't worry about it anyone, (Not that you were going to). Anyhow I had to do a hard reset because of some issues so while I was at it I did this and it is great!

Posted by: OrganHero

Highly reccomend this be done if you have this phone. Will free up some more of your memory and give you extra features. If you're like me and want the MMS setup then download Total Commander and access the Extended ROM then run the MMS CAB.

Posted by: tgantt

I want the remove Verizon custom stuff. Is there a way to save everything on my PPC and reinstall after HardReset, so I don't have to reinstall everything one by one?
Thanks

Sure, back up all your data to your desktop, using Active Sync. After you complete this you can send everything back to the phone. Very very easy.

Posted by: adambergstein

I also recommend this for the 6700. I am actually really annoyed that I didn't know of this sooner.

Thank god - no more "hitting the wrong key and costing myself kb's" Argh!

I haven't played around with any reg hacks for this phone yet - I know I'm missing out there too (just picked this phone up two weeks ago) but this is a good start.

Seems pretty safe, ya'll.

Posted by: TheFlasher

can you do this with a brand new verizon branded xv6700 phone?

Posted by: OrganHero

Sure. When you first get the phone out of the box you have to do all the set up like you do after a hard reset. Once it shows the cutomization message hit the reset and you're set my friend.

Thanks alot! but does obex work?

Posted by: OrganHero

Yes. The thing is, this phone's bluetooth stack does not have OBEX at all. So doing this wipe out is not going to make it appear. So what you do is click on 'Beam File' then the other OBEX device will appear and you tap to send. When you want to recieve them you turn on 'Recive all incoming Beams' and you will get the file.

Oh ok, can you send stuff if you do this to other phones though?

Posted by: OrganHero

Oh... I didn't see that you do not own this phone model. Anyhow, I believe there is some unlocking software for the V3 that let's you use OBEX. The newer Verizon razrs have the locks, (can't use a picture for front screen, no OBEX, etc.) but the first ones they sold had this. Send me an IM and I will foward you to some unlocking software.

No that's not what I mean I already have a hacked razr (it's awsome, yes) but what I want to know is can you send a file with the xv6700 to a smaller phone (ex: razr v3c) and have it work

Posted by: OrganHero

Yes, you can do this with any Beam or OBEX enabled phone. You do not need to remove all the Verizon garbage just to send things over Bluetooth.

Okay thanks (I'm still going to remove verizon's stuff)
