AAC audio files - E770V

I have an E770V which (according to the spec) supports AAC, AAC+, Enh AAC+ music files. However when I transfer one of these files to to phone's "audio" folder it is not recognised by the sound files section or the Digital Audio Player. As these files are half the size of an equivalent MP3 file I am keen to use this format for music on my phone.

Does anyone know how to get it to work? I know this is not a common phone but maybe other models have a similar problem/fix.
