z520a Increasing number of rings before message.

After some searching and frustration, I have not been able to find an answer to this problem. On my old T616 I was able to increase the number of rings before the call went to voicemail. My question is, is there any way to do a similar thing to the z520a, and what that procedure would be?

Cheers

Two steps to extend your ring time.
1st: Find your service number.
*#61*{SEND}
Be quick and write down the number that appears. You only need the ten digit number after the +1. It took me two tries to get the whole number.
2nd: Extend the Ring TIme.
**61*----------*11*XX#{SEND} Replace XX with ring time in seconds {10,15,20,25,30}
Try it after you are done to confirm.

Hi I'm new at this -- my last cell phone had a monochrome display and a string for connection between cups.
Now I have the z520.
I don't understand the directions above: is this a call? a text message? are the *'s part of the directions?
Sorry for the dumb question...

That's the code you need to type on your keypad. It's not a text message, I guess it's like making a call... just start typing.
From what I can tell, *'s are included.
So press * (bottom left button) # (bottom right) 6, 1, *, then send the "call"
Write that number down, then
*,*,6,1,*, that 10 digit number, *,1,1,*, Seconds,#, Send

I haven't done this before, but that's what it looks like it means.

this doesn't seem to work.

if i dial

*#61*
the "send" button says {dial}
and it trys to call the number, and fails.

however, if you enter a sequence ending with #
the "send" button says {send}

i'm guessing that original command is incorrect somehow, and needs a # at the end.
I've tried various combinations, but I always get a "command error" message.

anybody know how else to do this? the phone currently goes to the answering machine after about 10 seconds. it's so quick!

it's crazy that you can't change it on the phone... ><

if you can't manage the code to do it yourself, you can call customer service. Just tell them you want to increase your ringtime to voice mail. They will fix you up.

I could not get that code or any other variation of *'s or #'s to work either.

ILUVMYMAC is on the right track. I asked Sony Ericsson about this in a support email and was told that it is not a phone issue but a carrier issue. Tech person told me to contact Cingular, which I haven't had a chance to do.

Went to a Cingular retail store and had my ring time on an SE z720a and my wife's new Samsung extended to the maximum 28 seconds from 15.
They made a simple call to customer service, which of course you can do yourself.

Instructions in post #2 worked for me. Thanks
