I just got this phone yesterday and am loving it. I tried to make a call outside my bank and was shocked to find I could not see anything on the screen. I tried adjusting the screen brightness , but no joy. I plan to use this in my pickup truck along with Tom Tom navigator and I fear I wont be able to use see where I am going. Perhaps it should come with a hood to place over your head to create some shade!!!! I would be too embarassed to snuggle up to large people on the street to make a call!!!!

I noticed this same problem. Luckily, I'm usually indoors.

I used to have a device (I forget what exactly it was) that had a backlight sun slit in it. Basically, it harnessed the power of the sun to boost the backlight to new found levels. The best thing was that in really bright sun, it had a really bright backlight. The brighter the sun, the more powerful the backlight.

The downside was that the device didn't have any kind of normal backlight, so it was useless in the dark.

I keep waiting for a pda which has both the normal backlight, and a sun backlight. Ah the bliss of such a device.

Maybe I should get a pattent for the idea?

I have a Audiovox 6600 and the screen was flawless. I never had a single issue with it other than the phone got left out in the cold overnight and the screen looked like a snowflake when I turned it on. Audiovox refused to repair it on warranty. I refused to p[ay for the repair, so my phone service provider took the phone back. Audiovox has terrible customer service.

I was able to find new dialer skins that seem to make it tolerable. Thanks Howard forums.

RE: VISIBILITY OUTDOORS:

Yeah, it is pretty dismal, but I've been thru TREO's, HP's, and a lot of other phones, the 6700 is no worse than the rest!! Time for the "Techies" to figure out a solution to this problem, not only for PDAS., but Laptops also!!!

I haven't spent much time trying to use it outdoors.. But that is mostly because I am afraid of dropping it in the snow.
