Skill is when you know the boundaries of your car well enough to safely move between things, knowing exactly how much your car can handle in the curves without sliding out or loss of control, synchronizing with other cars, and not doing any of this on a public road. |

And somebody can be a great driver in one condition and a piss poor one in another. If you're talking about strict commuter travel, then you have to judge lane maintenence, speed maintenence (sorry, computers can keep their sodding feet off my pedals), sense of direction, knowledge of terrain, and ability to predict traffic. If you're talking about aggressive driving in traffic, you need fast reactions, ability to throw the car to 110% comfortably, and properly predict what traffic will do before they know it and make your move accordingly. And then there's fun driving. Being able to know the most effecient line, and braking points is key. Most people wouldn't know the proper line through a gentle sweeper, let alone how to take and trailbrake an off-camber decreasing radius bend. |
