Razr V3 w/ MPT 4.04 stuck on "initializing modem..."

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: egasparis

ok I am truly stuck trying to make this work, maybe somebody here has some insight

I had this working 1 week ago, but it just quit working on me the past few days

the problem is that the modem is installed but MPT just can't find it so it just sits there with "modem not connected" icon mocking me

i have tried uninstalling MPT and reinstalling
i have tried changing com port from COM3 to COM1
i have updated MPT all the way up to 4.04

i have tried unplugging and plugging in the phone, i am totally stumped for ideas of what to try next (also wow the built in help in MPT is useless, nothing for troubleshooting at all)

somebody please give me some advice, thanks

ALSO, even if i can't get MPT working I don't really care, all that matters if that i can transfer photos and audio (for my ringtones) back and forth on the phone

1. uninstall MPT
2. uninstall the motorola modem device unders windows' device manager. reboot.
3. get p2k drivers 2.9.
4. plug the mobile in.
5. install the mobile using manual install pointing to the p2k drivers folder.
6. install MPT

Hmm that doesn't work

didn't work for me neither, darn

only option is:
under USB settings choose external memory
connect via USB then upload and download as usual.

p.s.: got rid of MPT long time ago and bought a T-flash card

Ok .... I believe this thread is identical to another 1 on here asking same question or rather same problem . Tell me what your computer sees your phone as. Then maybe I can solve your little delimea . Also let me see if I can find the other thread about this as well.

thanks for trying to help

when i first plugged in my phone it recognized new hardware as "motorola V3" then it figured out it was a "motorola usb modem"

in device manager it is "motorola usb modem" it is on COM1
it is using these drivers: usbsermpt.sys and modem.sys

this is what it says in the log of device manager for the modem:

Code:
03-19-2006 03:43:59.500 - Modem type: Motorola USB Modem 03-19-2006 03:43:59.500 - Modem inf path: oem17.inf 03-19-2006 03:43:59.500 - Modem inf section: USBMOTOROLA_COMMON 03-19-2006 03:43:59.500 - Matching hardware ID: usb\vid_22b8&pid_4902 03-19-2006 03:43:59.531 - 230400,8,N,1, ctsfl=1, rtsctl=2 03-19-2006 03:43:59.546 - Initializing modem. 03-19-2006 03:43:59.546 - DSR is low while initializing the modem. Verify modem is turned on. 03-19-2006 03:43:59.546 - CTS is low while initializing modem. 03-19-2006 03:43:59.562 - Send: AT<cr> 03-19-2006 03:44:01.562 - Timed out waiting for response from modem 03-19-2006 03:44:01.562 - The modem failed to respond to the initialization command, Retrying one more time

if you need more info, i can supply it...hopefully we can fix this problem for me and others can also benefit from this information

thanks

From what I see your phone is connecting fine. Either you mpt instilation is corrupt or you os doesnt like your phone. My 1st suggestion would be to get P2KTools. That should allow you to work on your phone. It will allow you to add ringtones files and other features to your phone.

Just a thought - did anyone think to search/ask over at www.bvrpforums.com?

I think this problem we can solve here at howard ...

Using the "search in the dark without a flashlight" approach rather than asking the authors of the software in question? Whatever floats yer boat...

I dont think we searching in the dark . Now thats honest. And do you think the authors of the software know every answer with every issue. I doubt that . But that would be a good idea but we here now trying to help . If you like ask for us please and let us know what was their answer.

I have this from time to time. Once you plug in the phone, it tries to detect? If that is the case.........when it detects unplug the phone right away wait for the "windows noise" then plug it back in. It should start detecting shortly thereafter.
Hope it helps, but I could even be misunderstanding the problem

What you talking about is similar to his problem as I have seen it as well . But he to the best of my knowledge cant fully access his phone thru MPT.

They may not know every answer, but I'm sure they know their product's source code better than anyone in this thread unless one of you is a BVRP employee.

As far as asking them for you? As a long-time sysadmin, I can tell you that the worst thing one can do is get a middleman involved in a tech issue.

HoFo is a great place and I support it monetarily, but it's hardly the be-all, end-all. Remember, when all one has is a hammer (ie, HoFo), everything looks like a nail...

thanks for all your help people, but unfortunately looks like a nasty hardware problem. there was some great troubleshooting stuff over at makers of MPT and at Motorola though, unfortunately didn't help me because mine was hardware issue.

today when i opened up my phone, the screen was all blank with lines on it. see picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eliasg/115931698/

i am now contacting Motorola to see if they will replace my phone

Ouch. Did you try removing your battery for a bit, then putting it back in and starting it up?

Even though you might get it running long enough to try and grab some data off of it, it sounds as though there's definitely something flaky with it.

ok so i emailed motorola my problem, then i took of batter and stuff to look for serial number.

i put it all together to try to see if it works for the heck of it.

IT WORKS PERFECTLY NOW, wtf. it turns on, screen works AND it even connects to MPT

like i guess the threat of me RMA'ing it back to Motorola scared the bejeebuz out of it. totally weird, i'm mad i spent so much time troubleshooting this, but happy because it works.

jeez, technology sometimes...i tell you. thanks for all your help guys & gals.

As with Windoze, sometimes a good reboot is all it needs

White screen of death, blue screen of death - whatever

Many is the time that I've had to reboot my phone, reboot my PC, or both to get the phone and PC talking, even though they've been cooperating for weeks before that. I still think that USB is a bit flaky all on it's own, so anything that uses it will be flaky by definition.

Well its depends on what usb you are using . If you have an older machine in-properly installed drivers then you are using usb 1.0 or 1.1D . That was the original design in 1995 which transmots data at 12mbps. Now if you have usb 2.0 which is far more faster and advance then you are able to transmit data at 480mbps.
The later is much more viable and useful. As far as connectivity between a computer and any other device usb is in the top only surpassed by firewire.
