Ive been searching and reading all I can about how to get mp3's to work on my v262. Some say just to change the file ext to .mid, and other say to download x and y program and change the bitrate. Ive downloaded several programs and tried to duplicate what others have said to do but I cannot get MP3s to work on my v262. I always get the "File is corrupt. Delete?" message. If someone could give me step by step directions on how to get *any* mp3 to work on this phone or point me to somewhere I can get information, it would be a big help. Thanks!

The method outlined in the link below will work on V262's (also V260, V265 and V266) from Alltel, Verizon and USCC. I know that it does not work for these models from Metro PCS of Telus. I don't know whether or not it will work with any other carrier's models of these phones.

I use mobile Phone Tools software and a cable to transfer the files to my V262 after the conversion and renaming process is complete. Genuine midi files will play fine without any conversion required.

I have a V266 where I am having the same problem. I tried to go to the link you mentioned, but I was restricted. Could you please let me know of a working link or let me know how I can get ringtones on this phone without the "file corrupt, delete?" message coming up???? Thanks, Chad

make sure your mp3s are between 64kbps and 192kbps, you can leave them as mono or stereo, make sure that they're set at a constant bit rate and not variable bit rate. When you set your mp3s at variable, your phone will see your newly uploaded mp3s as corrupt.

So I got the ringtones over to the phone and the phone recognizes them and will play them when you go to "media gallery" - then "sounds". I had to convert the files to .wav to be able to do this. However, now I am unable to assign any of this files as ringtones. The ringtones arn't listed when you go to "ring styles", then "details". The ringtones don't show up either when you try to assign a "ringer id" to a specific contact. What can I do???

Yes, I see the original link no longer works. Luckily, I saved that web page to my hard drive and a copy is posted below. I have used these instructions and they work on Alltel, Verizon and US Cellular branded Motorola V260, V262, V265 and V266 phones. They do not work on Telus or Metro PCS branded phones. All credit goes to the original author. I have changed the link for the Yamaha converter to the Yamaha corporate site.

RealTones on your V265

As many of you with v265s may already know, the popular music format MP3 will not work on the v265. I and many others are working on a seem edit to fix this problem, and to allow it to play MP3 files. Another solution was to take an MP3 file (exp.mp3) and rename it's extension to mid (exp.mid), but that unfortunately does not work either. So I have found a way to make music tones sound the best that they can on this phone.

You will need....

Audacity (or any other program that will allow you to cut mp3s to about 20 seconds, more or less)
Yamaha MMF Converter--Download Here:

http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/licens...ocid=wscma2s210

The first step is to find your mp3 that you would like to become your ringtone.

2. Open the mp3 file in Audacity, or any other program you wish to use.

3. Cut out a segment of this mp3 file that will be your ringtone.

4. Now save that segment as a .wav file. In Audacity choose File>Export as WAV

5. After that, open up your Yamaha MMF Converter (In the zip file, it should be named wscma2u.exe)

6. Next drag your .wav file onto the box, fill out the info, or just leave it as it is, and press ok.

7. It should say "SMAF File Created" and then the size, and the file will be created in the same directory as your .wav file.

8. Now you need to be able to see the extension types of your files. Open up My Computer, Go to Tools on the top, then click Folder Options. Then click View, and scroll down and make sure the "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.

9. Go back to where your .wav file and your .mmf file are, and rename your .mmf file to .mid (for example Indaclub.mmf to Indaclub.mid)

10. Use the data cable or send the .mid file to your phone, and it should be under your sounds and it should be able to be used as a ringtone.

Awesome... I will be trying this out tomorrow when I have the phone. My gf has the V266 for U.S. Cellular so it should work out. THANKS!

Did as described and worked perfectly! It isn't very loud, but I am sure I can play with it. Thanks
