date format on v3i

I have noted that the 'year' date on my brand new V3i only allows for two last digits (not full four digit year format) and that the calendar included with original phone does not go account for dates prior to 2000. Result: all dates referenced in JAVA programs making use of the default phone format cannot cover years before 2000. For instance , I appear being born in (20)58 instead of (19)58. any fix?
