Help With Dev Kit Install!!!

alright this is my friggin problem... i just bought my usb cable and connected it to my computer. first message i get is " usb device not recognized " and im like wtf?!?!? then i read up on help and they havent really helped. anybody able to help me with this problem? if you can, ID REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!!

Its pretty hard to become a developer, and you need to be a developer to use the USB cable... I am going to suggest bringing the cable back.

You need a developer KEY, as well as the USB cable.

Keys used to be given out to almost anyone in the early days of the hiptop pltform, but now they are very strict. I heard you even have to write a program for the danger platform before they will let you have one.

i actually do have the usb cable, just not sure on how to install the driver for the hiptop

you cant do anything with it for a normal user because of the fact you need a DevKey to devolp software for the danger Hiptop/sidekick platform

i already applied for the dev key and the guy approved my request...but he wont directly give me the key...he linked me to the danger.developer.com site, he like...disabled the need for plan or some stuff for my account and now i can access the "forum-type dev-key"

You have to apply for, and qualify for, a developer key by filling out an application form and supplying a sample application that *you* have written yourself. Thats the *only* way to get a developer key.

The service plan waiver you're referring to only allows you to access the application form, it doesn't give you any special consideration for a key at all - it just lets you access the form when you couldn't before.

And no, Danger won't "directly give you a key". You have to go through the approval process like everyone else.

Jgeorge knows this. He wrote to possibly fend off, yet another, post from someone looking to get/install an illegal dev key.

Any idea how many posts like that come through here a year? If his post reduces that...then it's all good.

Just purchased my new Hiptop 2 and loved it.

How do I get the software 2.3 and other software upgrades as my Hiptop 2 does not support JavaScript software.

What service do you have? T-mobile USA and Europe have it already. Suncom USA is in proces now. Fido should be getting it soon. All others, no word yet.

He couldn't install an illegal dev key even if he obtained one, each key is made to work with the specific IMEI of the dev's phone.
