I previously posted on a roaming issue here, in Buffalo due to it's close proxmity to canada:
Buffalo/Canada roaming
so, I called T-mobile and they said not to worry about the roaming sign on the screen, as long as "VOICESTREAM" is displayed as the carrier, I'm not roaming....is this correct?? If so, why is the roaming sign displayed??

Ok, I called back just to make sure what I was told was correct and to ask some other questions - and they told me that if you have a nationwide long dist/no roaming plan, you never get charged for roaming as long as you are with in the US, even if your phone connects to another company's tower - and as conclusive evidence, i made a 5 min phone call from my GD87 with the roaming sign displayed, then called t-mobile and asked them to look at my bill and tell me if that call was registered as roaming or not and they said no - so no worries I guess - he also said that if the phone was made for the US, the roaming display would probably monitor the carrier, but since the phone is from overseas, it's probably made to display roaming based on a different protocall - yay :-D

I spoke to a fairly knowledgeable customer service guy from T-Mobile (i have the roaming sign too) and he told me the roaming is sim card speciffic. He then proceeds to tell me that my sim card has been manufactured in June of 2000, and I have been with Tmobile since feb of last year. The only way to change that is if you change the sim card, a 20 dollar value. So we were talking about other things and he mentioned that if you report the card as faulty, they'll give u a new card, u still pay the 20 dollars at the store, but they give you a 20 dollar credit on your next bill. So same deal. I am thinking about ways that i can report my card is faulty.... any ideas anyone? big *** speaker magnet maybe?

replacing the sim card doesnt solve the problem.
I had 2 new T-mo sim cards activated. They both have the roaming sign on my GD87. not only the GD87, it was on my S100 also.

I am a tmobile dealer and all you need to do to get a new sim is call the sostumer care tell them your phone doesn't read the sim, then tey will tell you to got to the tmobile store to get a new one. When you get the the store just tell the person thier that the costumer representative told you that you can through the sim away. At that point they cannot charge you for the sim. And by that I mean that they will charge you in the store but refund you on your next bill. Good luck.
