Ringtones for XV6700

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just purchased the XV6700 from Verizon. The few rings that came with the phone are rather annoying. So far numerous tech's for Verizon have not been able to tell me how to get different rings for the phone. Most of them give conflicting information that usually differs from the manual.
Anyone know of any websites that have them or how to get them?

There are many posts on the site but all you need for a ring tone is a 30 second MP3, WMA or wav file.. You just place them in the Windows/ringers folder.

Its easy enough to make them or find with a few google searches.

i use mp3splitter (free program) to make my own. just find the .mp3 you want and cut out a <30sec piece.

my phone isnt here yet, but how do you transfer the mp3 ringer on the 6700s windows/ringer folder??

Hook your phone up, open up active sync, click on "explore". Find the correct folder, then drag and drop the cut mp3 into that folder. Takes about 5 seconds. Congrats on the new purchase, enjoy.

once i do that, how do i get the mp3 from the computer to the phone, is there something that comes on the computer to transfer the ringer to the phone???? this is a little confusing?? iam use to a data cable with BITPIM or QPST!!! can you explain a little more if you dont care!!

Once active sync is installed, you will be able to see your PDA as a device sort of like a hard drive.. you can just directly open it and navigate its folders like a harddrive.

Nothing as complex as Bitpim or QPST..

If you're using activesync, just hook your phone up to the cable. Once you click "explore" and browse to find the ring folder - you're already in the phone. Just copy the file directly into the folder on the "explore" window...then it's on the phone...it copies it just like an external hard drive or thumb drive.

WAIT TILL YOU GET THE PHONE, there will be a manual that should walk you through the basics.

Active Sync is really two applications, 1 that runs on your PC and sits in your system tray. It aslo adds a mobile device in your My Computer folder. The second is the version on your PDA. The two of them work together to transfer data back and forth and keep your Desktop and the PDA up to date.

Time to start using the forum search button.

The 6700 never really turns off but here is the quick answer what the power button does.

1. A quick click will turn the screen completely off and suspend all open applications, the device still runs in the background and will turn on the display when a call comes in or there is a notification like when a calendar reminder comes up.

2. Holding the button for 5 seconds will just turn the backlight off, applications will still run and all of the buttons will fuctions.. This is the mod most uses when listening to MP3s or something that you want to keep running, you will get shorter battery life in this mode and risk clicking buttons, and clicking screen items while it is running.

Because the device wakes up on calls and notifications, it is a good idea to go into settings--> password and turn the password feature on, even a password of 0000 will do. Also set the time out to 0.. What this will do is lock the device every time you click the power button to put it to sleep, when you turn it back on or it comes on you will need to type in your password before doing anything.. This prevents you dialing random numbers while the phone is in your pocket. The call answer and hangup buttons will automaticly activate when there is an incomming call so you can still answer the phone while it is locked.

For some reason when I tap & hold on an MP3, the option, "set as ringtone" is not listed. And for this reason, if I goto sounds & notification & try to previw the mp3 ringtone, it does not play. Only wav files play. Any ideas?[/FONT]

Ok, so now I got the ring tone thing down! But now how can I set them for text msg? I know they have to be wav so I did that. And people talk about putting them in a window folder I can find that folder on my phone. But when I hook up my phone to my computer I can not find it using my computer so I could put the file there. Can someone please help me
