question about sidekick II pre-paid

my brother gave me his sidekick II and i would like to use it for just the internet/aim (data plan). Now, can i just use a sim card from ebay? if so, what steps do i need to do to activate pre-paid service? because i tried just putting the sim card into my sidekick, but it doesnt work.

I think it's a special code they put in the account that makes it a "sidekick sim card"

you buy a pay as you go SIM card off Bay (or use your existing one) T-Mobile

then call customer service and tell thenm you want to switch it to a sidekick pay as you go account

Its easier to buy a prepaid kit (50 dollars i think) and it comes with the sim card and 30 days of service.
