USB Data Cable Shows Up As Modem!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I recently bought the UTStarcom USB Data Cable for the Toshiba VM4050 phone (also for the Audiovox CDM990 and 9950) online and it didn't come with any software. So I googled around and found two different installations for a driver to install this thing. I followed the instructions for both, up until it says that it should show up under COM ports in hardware devices. Instead, it shows up as a modem.

Whatever, I just want to upload my pictures as the product promises. Is there a way to make a computer with XP recognise the phone similar to a flash drive (as it is, of course, plugged into a USB slot), or is there a way to uploade pictures by way of this "modem" feature?

Much appreciated,

Alan

ActiveSync?

I would love to get my 6700 setup as a USB Storage Drive and not have to use AS, anyone with some suggestions?

1. The "Driver" for the PC IS A MODEM DRIVER it lets you use your phone as a data modem.

2. The NORMAL way to sync data and files to the 6700 is using microsoft active sync. You need version 4 or higher for the 6700 you can download v 4.1 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmob...tivesync41.mspx

3. If you want it to be detected like a USB flash drive you can install a thrid party program on the 6700 called Card Export II It can be found at http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/

Alright, installed both and now there's a "Mobile Device" icon in my computer. Active Sync doesn't detect the device and I'm not sure how this Card Export thing gets working. Either way, there's nothing under "Mobile Device" when I click on it.

Windows recognises the phone just fine as a data modem. How do I access the pictures and video this way? (It says nothing in the instructions that come with the software how to use it.. just how to install it)

Sorry Alan I got confused by Stealthy_C's post and didn;t see that you have a Toshiba VM4050 not a PPC 6700..

I asume you need a special appliction for the Toshiba VM4050 as it is not a PPC device. Sorry if i confused you.

No problem. I've found an application that claims to allow me to use the USB cable to the VM4050. It's here. Problem is, windows recognises it under "device manager" as a modem, not a USB drive or in the COM ports.

1) How do I make it recognise as a USB device?

2) If I can't do that, how do I get the pictures off the phone as a modem?

I even got it to show up as a network connection, but anything technical after that is beyond my expertise. It shows up as "Audiovox CDMA USB Modem" under the list of modems.
