I always here people badmouthing samsung. I've never had one of their phones, but their innovation seems awesome. I was checking out the HSDPA phone that gets up to 3.6Mbps. they also displayed the 10 MP camera phone and 8 gig music phone. they're #1 in korea, and release phones that we'll never see in north america. but it's rare to hear someone say theyir phones are good.

what's up?

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Samsung is a CDMA-first company. If you look at their offerings for Sprint, Verizon or their phones for CDMA-using Korea, their GSM phones just don't compare. I've had a lot of customers who are happy with the basic functionality of a phone like the x497, but that's about it. It's a lot like trying to find a good CDMA phone made by Nokia...

In before tuolomme.

Although Samsung is really innovative, we don't get a lot of that innovation - while other markets get 8-megapixel camera phones and the i300 (which did the hard drive thing before Nokia made it cool), we get the basic flip phones that seem like they were knocked out in a couple of minutes.

yeah my cousin happens to visit me from korea every year and basically laughs at the phones we have here that we find cool or top of the line

he showed me his samsung which is also the remote for his tv, entertainment center, car starter, mp3 player, i think it was a 5 mp camera?? but it was pretty disgusting to see it for the brief few minutes i did

its too bad samsung gets such a bad rep b/c their gsm phones basically suck.... i mean they have bad ratings but you have to think that samsung is only making basic flips and sliders for the US markets so you can't expect too much out of them

From my experience so far I would say they make good phones. Not the best, but in the middle. I like the design on the D807 personally.

my sister had a samsung and she never recieved text messages or voicemails on it so i stay away from samsung just based on her use of a samsung.

I have had lots of Samsungs, but only one GSM one, the e730. It was horrible and one of the worst phones I have ever owned.

My all time favorite Sammy was the A800 which was fantastic, so it's kind of a hit or a miss... Overall I think they are solid, but usually buggy.

I like my friends White P207. Well built and rare in the states.

yeah their UI is rather girly??

too many colors and animations for my taste

love symbian s60 UI though, best out there imo

I like where the company is going. Look at the T809 or A900. Both hot phones. The A900 has 3G in a slim profile and looks much better than the Razr, don't even compare it to the V3x. Look at the Z510, another 3G phone. If you're looking at mid-range phones, you aren't going to find much.

As for the UI, I like it. Its easy to use and quite fast. Much better than the recent (post-1999) Nokias.

I dont understand why Samsung cant make ther GSM phones as good as their CDMA phones????? I mean why cant they (for example) just take the A900 and just put GSM in it and sell it to the GSM carrier??? Is it that difficult or costly?
