hello,

i'm planning on going to europe and taking my cellphone with me. however, i do not wanna use cingular's sim card, since calls would be ridiculously expensive. i found a website among many others that sells european sim cards. they say that a phone must be unlocked for that. i have motorolla v180. will i be able to use it with a different sim card?

Is it unlocked?

The V180 I bought from Cingular in Nov '04 was factory unlocked.

We bought 2 V180s from Cingular in Dec 04. These were already unlocked. This was one of the reasons we bought this phone. My wife is currently out of US and she is using this phone with a SIM from local provider there. No issues.
To make sure, if any of your friends have a T-Mobile phone, try using their SIM in your phone, if it works then you are all set.

You might want to check with Cellhire. Only reason I know about them is because I used to work for them as a Customer Service Rep.

how do you find out whether it is unlocked or not? i don't have another sim card at the moment to test it

If you have a friend w/ T-mobile service, try using their SIM card in your phone.
