w600i acting up...reboots and "inactive smartchip" prompts

For those of you who have the w600i, do you guys have the problem where the phone will reboot itself (after a white screen) and get stuck in an infinite loop, then eventually boot up again with this "inactive smartchip" or "insert smartchip" prompt?
Is this a common problem? If so then I am disappointed in Sony Ericsson/Cingular. I only had this for 3 months, so there's still warranty. Problem is, I bought the phone retail on prepaid, so does XBM still apply? Or do I need to put the IMEI on my account and use XBM through my postpaid lines?
