my bloody player is giving me problem, this is why i hate players that require you to use a software to transfer music. now everytime i plug it in, it says USB device ccannot be recognised, and ive reinstalled the software countless times, tried it on another computer, same problem. im going crazy. i dont have the warranty reciept its with someone else, is there a way to reformat the device?

Is there a driver for the USB or the player? Maybe you want to reinstall that, or maybe you can reset the player.

Posted by: bronco

i dont think you ccan reset the player, there is no master reset button on it.

Posted by: Mr Pink57

first thing i do is try a different usb cable, this usually fixes the problem.

tried that no luck, guess im gona have to go utilize the warranty

I do'nt know if its the same on the photo... but on my zen micro, to do a reset involves basically

1) taking out the battery
2) holding the switch to ON
3) inserting the battery

that should get you into "recovery mode," from there you have a few options. Disk Cleanup fixes a few rare times when the player kinda screws up, without nuking any data.

Maybe try Creative's forums? they helped me out

i managed to reformat, but i went to reload firmware and it asked me if i wanted to delete the fw and i chose no but it deleted it. now i tried reloading it through USB but it still says USB device not recognised, so ive got a paper weight now.

try this (several people have confirmed this procedure):
1. remove the battery
2. hold the on switch in the on position
3. still holding the on switch in the on position, re-insert the battery
4. when the screen powers up, you will see the recovery menu. go the the 'clean' function (x2)
5. after using the clean function twice, reboot the player.

if this does not work, try the following steps:
1. download this firmware -> http://files.creative.com/manualdn/..._LB_1_20_01.exe (i assumed you're using windows xp. if not, download the appropriate firmware from http://www.creative.com/language.as...pport/downloads)
2. access the recovery menu as described above
3. open creative mediasource, go to Tools>Settings>Detector>uncheck Enable Detector. close mediasource
4. go to the firmware update option in the recovery menu
5. connect your player to your computer
6. open the firmware you downloaded and follow the steps

if this doesn't fix your problem, then try to format the disk (in the recovery menu, not on your computer )

*NOTE* these procedures also work (confirmed) on the Zen Mirco.

btw...you dont need to use the software that came with your player to xfer songs. plug in your microphoto to your computer, go to my computer, and you should see it come up as a drive. when you open this drive, go to media>music or something like that, and you copy and paste files/folders to here (NOTE: this drive is write-only i.e. you cant copy files from here to your computer, only from your computer to here)

Posted by: bronco

my main problem now is that everytime i plug in the usb cable, first thing it does is it hangs on me, just doesnt do anything so i cant choose it to reload fw and USB device not recognised comes up again

Posted by: 5abSingh

before you plugged in the usb, did you go to the recovery menu?

Posted by: bronco

it doesnt work man, thakn you so mcuh for your help, but still no luck, everyitme i plug it in it just comes up with USB device not recognised and it hangs the player, i cant even get to the FW update thing at all. im just going to use the warranty on it

How are you inserting the cable?

Usually I just unplug everything from the computer (cable, and MP3 player) and wait a few seconds, or even restart (atleast that's what I do for my phone; I don't have that problem with my microphoto).

And is the user account you're using a limited or admin account?

Posted by: bronco

i tried that, ive tried a few USB cables, few computers, different USB ports. and no im not on a limited account, I have no idea whats wrong with the player but its definitely to do with the player itself cause I tried it on my sisters ccomputer and it said the same error.

I have had similar problems with my Zen Micro 8GB player. It would accept any netcasts that I would transfer over to it, but none of my personal MP3's would be recognized after they were transferred. I did a "clean up" which scanned the drive but detected no problems. The main issue still remained. I then did a complete format of the drive. I then had problems with my computer (WinXP) recognizing the player so that I could not load the necessary firmware (1.20.01) into the player. After letting the problem set overnight, I went back into my computer the next day, used System Restore back to the point where I had just did a system rebuild. It then recognized the player, allowed me to load the firmware, and now everything is fine. I might suggest that when downloading the "xtra" software is to be careful that it is totally acceptable for your player to use. I think that is what I did wrong and will be more careful in the future. Hope this is some help for you!!!

when i do clean it just freezes
any help 4 that?

Sorry to bump this thread, but for some reason, my desktop lost my Microphoto's drivers, and now it can't recognize it. It comes up asking for the drivers, but I lost the CD. I tried transferring files to my MP3 player via windows media, but I can't find out how to put it in an existing playlist.

Can someone either send me the drivers for the Creative Media player to recognize it?

Try going to the Driver Downloads below.

http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

Nevermind, they don't seem to have it for download.

Posted by: 108Reliant

I redirect you to this posting made earlier. Also the latest driver for the player can be found here. http://us.creative.com/support/down...ype=0&x=20&y=13

And the latest firmware will support FM recording.

You may think that this does not answer your question, but from what you have said, it sounds like a reformat of the drive may be in order. Make sure you have the Creative Software that came with the player installed on your computer. That way it will recognize the player after you reinserted the battery. I made the mistake of not doing it that way and had to set my system recover back to last rebuild for it to recognize my player.

If you're responding to my post (the one that bumped this thread) I deleted the creative software because its pissing me off. Now I can't do anything with my MP3 player short of throwing it into the rubbish.

I plugged my Microphoto into my cell phone charger by accident and when i went to turn it on it wouldn't come on... anyone know if that messes up the battery, or if i'm going to need to buy a new battery for it?

Posted by: allergy_eleven

I've been having a problem when I plug the mp3 player in. It says 'device malfunctioned' then when I go to details it says 'no driver found'.
I followed all your suggestions but when I get to the point of opening the firmware, it just says 'please plug in your mp3 player' which I have.

I don't know what to do.

Posted by: Hawaiian Boy

The good news, is that I'm able to use my microphoto with Vista's Media Player 11. The bad news, is that I'm having a hard time safely removing the device.

Posted by: Hawaiian Boy

whohooooo!!!! I found the disc! I copied it onto my MP3 player's removable drive partition, so if anyone needs it, then I can host the ISO.

Posted by: thinkboutit

Posted by: thinkboutit
