Ringtones deleted, Ringer back to stock VZW ringer... 8100

I recently upgraded my v4 to the v7. All of the mp3's i had stored on the phone got deleted. Now, whenever somebody calls me who used to have a specific ringer, i get the default verizon ringer. I re-uploaded the mp3 and set it to be the default ringer for everybody... that didn't fix the problem. I tried deleting the .dat files and resetting the phone; that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

With version 7, you have to have the ringtones saved in the phone's memory, not on the mini sd card. Every time the phone reboots, the ringtones.dat file gets rewritten. Note that there is only about 2mb space for ringtones in the phone.

---> to VERIZON <----

Seems Verizon must monitor the forums and their greed stimulates them to disable "workarounds" we have discovered. They want all the 99c fees they can collect from subscribers.

This is why I have *NOT* upgraded my VX8100 to Version 07. It's based in part on "If it ain't broke, don't FIX it!"

Well version 7 fixed problems that people had with low volume/fluctuations. Much better with v7. Also improved the camera delay, as well as added WMA capability. I don't mind only 2mb worth of ringtones for this (I have almost 3mb and it still works). Still have 30 custom ringtones. Plenty for me.

There does not seem to be any degree unanimity in the assessment of the benefits of V7 for the 8100. I have seen many post the opinion that the volume fluctuations continue after the update and that the shutter speed is still very slow on certain settings. The WMA cpability was added, I believe, at the cost of *native* mp3 fuction -- albeit they still play and any degradation of sound quality from the conversion would probly be moot in the cellphone speakers and headsets anyway.
Personally, I like the Sam Ervin philosopy quoted above by Charles: That's why I'm keeping V1 on my 9800 -- so my ringers won't suddenly come up missing!

So, no other ideas on how to fix my problem?

Do you have the ringtones saved to the phone memory instead of the card?? If not, try saving them on the phon ememory instead of the card....sounds like with v07 you have to do this! Good Luck!

Yeah, they're saved onto the phone and not the card....

Did you put the ringtones on your card and try it? If you still need help, you can aim me
