Can't Voice Dial w/ Bluetooth when KeyPad Locked - SMT5600

I am unable to use the voice dial function with my bluetooth adapter when the phone is keypad locked. It works fine when it is unlocked. Does anyone have a fix. I am using a Audiovox SMT 5600.
