Sorry, brand nubian (newbie). I have Verizon LG8100. I know in the manual it has takes 512MB. Can it take more? Has anyone tried putting up to 2GB (miniSD card) into the phone? If not what do ya think will happen? Most likely it won't work, right? Anyhoo, ask before I try, right? -gee

I have an 8100 ( new) and it takes up to a 1gb card. Some others have tried the 2gb card but the phone only sees 1gb.

There have been a few reports confirming that 2GB cards work in 8100's equiped with V7 only (for clarification, I'm talking about full 2GB).

I can confirm that my 8100 (v4) works just fine with a 1GB card.

The user manual was written prior to the release of any 1GB mini-SD cards. At the time, the only thing generally available was 512MB.

I just received a 2GB SanDisk card I ordered online from Outpost.com ( http://shop1.outpost.com/product/47...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG ) and the phone appears to recognize the adjusted 2GB after formatting. See SanDisk's website for more info on their latest cards ( http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Pro...fo.aspx?ID=1847 ). Also see http://www.allmemorycards.com/mini-sd.htm for good info on memory cards in general.

Now to my own question: After formatting the card in my phone and copying about 800MB of mp3's to the card, I'm only able to access 4 mp3's of 51MB, 68MB, 69MB, and 70MB in size. Now, I know there was previously a "limit" in the manual of 512MB, but is there a preset amount of memory the phone will allow you to use for mp3's specifically, while allocating the remaining blocks of memory specifically to pix, flix, etc?

Thanks for the help,

Aaron

No, there is not preset or pre-allocated amount of memory for mp3's when dealing with the card (the allocation of memory for different media only happens with the internal memory on these phones. You can allocate any amount you want (within the size constraints) when using the card.

Your mp3's most likely aren't showing up due to their file names. If you can't even see the mp3's on the phone, it is probably because the filenames are too long (I belive there is a 43 character limit).

If you can see them, but are unable to play them it is one of three things
1) Your filenames are too complex (i.e. they contain special characters or symbols like ".", ",", "{"...etc.). Change the filenames to be short and simple.
2) Your mp3 was encoded with a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). You can check the file properties to determine if this is the case. Files encoded with a CRC do not play on the 8100 (I'm not sure about the 9800 but my guess is that it doesn't).
3) Something is messed up with the ID3 tag which is preventing it from playing.

hope this helps.

Has anyone reported trying to use the new 2GB miniSD cards in a 9800 -- with any version of the firmware?

Yes, if I remember correctly, bxlegend tested this out and confirmed that it DOES NOT work with the 9800 under any of the current software versions. I think this is probably one of the features we will see when Version 3 (or whatever number they call it next) will come.....Since Verizon has started to try and sell 2GB mini-SD cards, I would suspect this will be on the top of their priority list for new feature enhancements included in the next software release.

I have heard a few reports (again, mostly from bxlegend) that 8100's equiped with V7 can handle 2GB cards. There is also another member that claims a 2GB card shows works with his V4 8100. He says that although the phone only reports 1GB of available size, he has put 1.5GB of content on it and it has all been accesible......

I bought the 2GB card from Outpost.com for $69.99 ( http://shop3.outpost.com/product/47...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG ), and have also found it for roughly the same price @ http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/det...email,ECOSTDEAL . I'm not sure what the difference is between the claimed manufacturer's part number (Outpost = SDSDM-2048R, eCost = SDSDM-2048-A10M) but the part number on the one I received is SDSDM-2048 without any suffix. I also had to wait for about a week for the card to be shipped since it was on backorder through Outpost, so you might check with the other vendor for availability.

However, I must update my previous claim that my 8100 with v7 firmware loaded recognized the full 2GB capacity. It actually recognizes only 966MB, or essentially 1GB less the file system overhead. The phone appears to format the card in basic FAT. My card reader allows me to see how the card is formatted, and I've tried formatting it again in both FAT & FAT32 to see if the problem was with the original formatting structure, but to no avail.

I immediately contacted SanDisk on 3/26/06 right after receiving the card and determining it was not able to register a full 2GB capacity. The tech support rep with whom I spoke indicated it should report the 2GB the way I expected, so he instructed me to check my email for an RMA link. I followed the RMA process, which involved me sending the miniSD card back via FedEx prepaid shipping to North Carolina. I checked their online "ebox" tracking method, but it was not updated for over a week, so I then called their customer service line again. The rep then confirmed that they had received the defective card on 3/31/06. However, their RMA process declined very quickly from that point. Their site reports that they received my card on 4/7/06, even though I had been verbally advised they received it on 3/31/06 and it should take no more than a week for them to ship out a replacement. They shipped the replacement card on 4/11/06, and I just received it on 4/18/06. I plugged the new card into my VX8100 and formatted it - the new "replacement" card is again registering only 966MB or 1GB capacity. I've got another pending request in with SanDisk to verify if the card is, yet again, defective/mis-labelled or if there could be something I'm doing incorrectly. I have plugged the card into my card reader and it is reporting the same result as the first card, so I'm assuming my equipment is functioning correctly and the card is at fault. I'll keep updating the issue if anyone is interested.

Please let me know if I should either move this to a different thread or start a new thread to keep people apprised of this experience with SanDisk and their product's compatibility with our phones.
