cingular 8700c and data plan?

I want to get an 8700c but not use the 45.00/month data plan or any of the date plans that cingular says the pda phones need. (i dont care for the email sync feature, i just want to use the phone cuz i like it, and occasional inet use)
I currently have the 19.99 mediaworks package that includes inet and text msg. I have used a treo 650(locked to cingular), an unlocked 8125(before cingular released their version), and am now currently using a p910a. Cingular says I cant get on the inet without the data plan on a PDA phone which I have done before...so my question is can i get on the inet with a 8700c using my mediaworks package and if so, do i get charged extra?...all help appreciated, want to know before buying

You won't do it wht a BB, you must get a BB plan or the device will be just a phone.

The answer is no.

You will not be able to use anything which relies on data unless you have a Cingular Blackberry plan on your account. Meida Works, Media Net, PDA Connect, none of them will work.

Question: Has anyone tried using a non-RIM pure TCP app on a Blackberry with a SiM that doesn't have the Blackberry APN provisioned?

I mean, I know the Blackbbery removes the service book and the browsing options when it gets 'data connection refused' from the Blackberry APN (if you put a SIM in that doesn't have that APN) - but does it also inhibit TCP connections (to, for example the internet.com APN set under options) also? (such as Verichat/Idokorro).

I haven't actually tried this. I've been told it wont work - and the removal of the Blackberry browser sort of assured me that was the case - but I've never tested it.

From time to time people swing through with the high hopes of beating the system. They've purchased a Blackberry before understanding how it all works (odd because these forums a full of FAQs). Disappointed to learn that they cannot get full email on the device they generally head right over to eBay to unload their new toy.

It's still a PDA that syncs via cable and you can SMS. You can also install apps that will install over cable (though don't bother loading any apps that need internet access).
