Hello,

Glad I just came across this informative forum on cellular technologies, just wish I had found this earlier. I wanted people's opinion on something. There are two phones that I am seriously considering purchasing, I just don't know which one would be best. I'm debating between the Siemens S 46 and the Nokia 6310i. Both of which would be on the AT&T 1000 anytime minutes GSM plan. I used to be with Voicestream before they became T-Mobile, and while I never really had a problem with their coverage I had a ton of problems with billing related issues, that's why the switch to AT&T.

I have been looking at all kinds of information regarding the Siemens S46, however I am unsure because of the problems I've read concerning the glitches with the early versions of the firmware. How can I be sure to get the phone with the most recent firmware installed? I was thinking about purchasing it online because there are some great rebates available, however the purchase would not be directly through an authorized AT&T dealer, would this present a problem? If the phone does not have the latest firmware update can I do the update manually somehow with the data cable or does the entire phone need to be sent back to the manufacturer? I can’t be without a phone! Also does anybody know why this model phone is being offered so cheaply?

The Nokia 6310i is also another option I am looking at, it seems to be a really decent phone as well, however it is quite a bit more expensive. It seems to have all of the features as the Siemens S46 plus added in bluetooth technology. Does anybody own this phone? How is the screen display compared to the S46?

Also does anybody know if the buttons on both of the model phone's are raised and are they easy to operate? I'm really not a fan of phones with cheaply made buttons.

Nokia 6310i all the way. go to howardchui.com and do a search on these forums for the 6310i. The ratings are awesome. I use to own one. I've seen all versions of the 6310i. Great phone...only thing it lacks is color...other than that, it'll do everything.

Thanks for the post, I just received the 6310i several days ago and has been very very pleased so far. The phone looks awesome, has what seems to be an infinite amount of features, and great reception and sound. Does the battery life ever die? I mean I have had this phone on for 6 days and the thing is still going. A color screen would be nice however all of the color screens I have seen so far have terrible resolution. I wish I could have gotten the black and gold model, but no complaints here. I would recommend this phone to anyone.

Your only choice was teh 6310i if you wanted the gsm 1000 minutes plan. The s46 would require multiband. If you want multiband you have to get s46 and vice versa.
