norton slow-down

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I installed norton internet security and since then it takes my PC 5-7 minutes to boot. I know it's fully up when I get an NT on-site access error. I'm pretty sure this error is coming from MacAfee that came with my dell. I disable the auto-start for it, ut it still takes a long time and i still get the error when it used to take like 30 seconds to boot.

anyone know what's up with this?

remove mcafee. Its bad to have two antivirus programs on one computer.

Remove then both and give AVG a try....

Norton Internet Security is the reason your computer is slow. Its a horrible program.

I suggest (like others have) to remove both McAfee and Norton and try one of these:

- AVG
- NOD32
- Kaspersky

I personally like Kaspersky the best, it has a very clean interface and doesn't use many resources. However, I can care less what happens to my PC since I mainly use my Mac.

Some of us do opt to pay

Posted by: steva

well, I did pay for it so i might as well use it. it's pretty good, no problems whatsoever. when i was running ad-aware, xoftspy and zone alarm it got so bad i had to reinstall windows twice. at that point, i just decided to buy norton. everything besides the boot has been great now.

Just a word of advise.... If you do decide to uninistall Norton Internet Security (which i reccomend) then it will probably be worth your time to download the symantec NRT (Norton removal tool). The uninstaller never removes all the registry values correctly, but this tool does a pretty good job of cleaning up the disaster that NIS leaves behind.
