Flashed VZ RAZR v3c and PRL updates?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm looking to flash my V3c to the Alltel software but have read that I will no longer be able to perform PRL updates via *228. What can I do to get these updates every now and then to make sure I'm getting the latest roaming list?

This has been verified by me to work, credit for this go to some peeps at momo- cant remember names sorry. But they sugested that vzw phones flashed with alltel firmware can do updates via *228 by setting thier network settings to home only under network in the settings menu.

I'm about to flash my vzw v3c (.03) to Alltel 4.04 firmware, and the only thing holding me back is the *228. In the past, I have only flashed one phone and it was the SE47 slider. I remember after the flash, I had to change my ESN back to the phone's original and do the service programming. I guess my question is, after I flash to alltel, will my phone work without having to do the service programming? I'm using the tutorial on wiki and it mentions nothing about this.

nevermind...i went ahead with it and have no problems.

I recently flashed my VZW RAZR to the Alltel 4.04 firmware. I waited awhile to do it b/c I too was concerned about not being able to perform a PRL update after the flash. I then came across this thread and set my network settings to "home only" but I wasn't able to get decent reception to complete the PRL update. So, I switched backed to "standard scan" and then dialed *228. I got the automated voice saying "Welcome to Verizon Wireless On-Air programming" and asking me to press option 1 or 2. I pressed 2 and my phone seemed act the same way it did when I performed a PRL update when I still had the crappy verizon firmware (screen said things like "SPL Unlocked", "Activation In Progress", "Commit OK"). I didn't get a new PRL version but that's because I'm 99.9999999% sure that there hasn't been a new PRL version that has come out in the short time I've had my phone. My question then is, why does the "flashing to Alltel" wiki say in bold not to do dial *228 ever again after flashing to Alltel? Nowhere does it say WHY it should not be done and as far as I can tell it works just like it did before the flash.

try getting on GIN or using mobile web. also i think that your pix messaging will no longer work... doing a prl update disables all data services

I did the PRL update again and was able to use GIN and Mobile Web w/o problem (I never use pix messaging).

To give you some more background, I originally used the instructions in the wiki to fix GIN and Mobile Web after flashing to Alltel 4.04.

Could it be that since I'm still not getting a new PRL version, (just overwriting the same version) everything still works with no problems?

Can you or anyboboby else confirm that they messed up data services when doing a PRL update after flashing to Alltel 4.04? If this happened to anybody, can that be fixed by re-doing the "Fix Get It Now" portion of the wiki?
