v180 problems with MPT 4.0/ringtone transfer

Hello, all. First post, so please be gentle and forgive any lapses in protocol.

Upon connecting my wife's v180 via USB to my laptop, which is installed with the most curent MPT release and works fine in all respects wiht my RARZ V3, I've been trying to update my wife's V180 ringtones without success.

Each time I attempt to initial the "Transfer to Phone" or "Synchronize" features from MPT, I receive an error dialog stating that MPT is "Unable to communicate with the mobile phone".

This is the MPT software which came with my T-Mobile RAZR, which I have updated via Live Update to ensure it is current. My wife's phone is a Cingular (orange) V180; but I've not seen anything which would lead me to believe that the software and v180 have any inherent compatibility problems. Despite being included with the T-Mobile phone, there is no T-Mobile-specific branding on the software, and it appears to be straight from Motorola as OEM issue.

I'd appreciate any insight from those who may have trod this ground before me and resolved a known issue. I'd also welcome any informed suggestions about working through the problem if this seems to be an isolated phenomenon. (I've tried using different audio files of different source types, and even images, all of which seem to prompt the same error response).

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

E.

you might want to try some of the software on motomodders.net which is free to register and they've got free software. P2ktools was easier to learn by trial and error, but it's much easier to transfer ringtones and wallpaper rather than using MPT. MPT most of the time would not recognize my phone even though the installation went smoothly.

you did not mention whether you were able to set up a profile for the V180. Obviously, if there is no profile there won't be any communication. If you have been unsuccessful estabilshing the V180 profile, you might want to use the manual install and pick the phone yourself. I am assuming that you have an operational modem since it is working for the V3.
