Hello All,

Considering an 8700. I currently have Cingular, and have an unlimited media net plan.

Truthfully, I want the 8700 for EDGE access from my laptop. I have found the FAQ on setting up the 8700 as a modem. I am currently using my RAZR to do just that, and all is well. Will I have any issues accessing, and/or getting charged for accessing the www through my BB when connected to my laptop??

Next, if I wanted to use the features of the BB, like e-mail and the www browser on the BB, must I add the BB service line items, and if so, which ones, or can I use a service like http://www.exchangemymail.com/ for those services?

Thanks for all the help.

Michael

You can not use any data function on the Blackberry without a Blackberry data plan. Period.

Media Net won't allow you to do anything.

Exchange My Mail doesn't take the place of a Blackberry plan with Cingular. It simply enhances it.

You do mean "with out" correct?

Yeah, sorry, without.

Typing too fast I guess. I've edited my post.

It is possible to use a MediaNet plan with a Blackberry phone. Using an Opera browser, which you can download as a .jar file via a usb cable and computer, you can view all internet pages through MediaNet. You probably will not be able to do over-the-air downloads because the phone attempts to connect to the blackberry.net, but you can get around this by downloading files to the computer and transferring. Text messaging also worked. Didn't try pushing mms or pushing emails, but you can use a web client to do both.

Some functions will work without a BB dataplan as you have mentioned above. The BB mail client will not work, and I dont think MMS works either. SMS and phone work just fine. My question is, why would you do this when you have to use so many work arounds to get things to work? Why not just get another phone that does not require a BB dataplan. A BB without a BB dataplan to go with it is a huge compromise.
