Editing eri_verizon file

I used bitpim to copy the eri_verizon file to my pc. Now I want to edit the hex code to eliminate the verizon banners. I have read that I need PST 7.2.3 or PST 7.1.1 but for the life of me I can't find this anywhere. Is there any other way to edit the eri_verizon file?

I loaded a hex editor and deleted the verizon wireless banner from eri_verizon.nv but when I attempt to overwrite the file under the filesystem in bitpim all I get is "exception" error. Anyone have any luck with this procedure?
