weird ringer problems with my 9800

well the original 9800 ive had since they almost 1st came out up until last week just froze up and had to be replaced.

now i went to add my old ringtones back on this phone.

i have a 1gig card and a card writer. so i followed a how to i found on this site that basically works like this..

put card in writer
make subfolder "ringers"
add songs to folder
add card to phone
hook up to computer and start bitpim
get phone data
send phone data

works great, ringers work fine... but i noticed a few things. On this 2nd phone, when i do "get phone data", it doesnt show the ringers i added to that folder. But when i do send data, it will add them to the phone.

now the real weird part... the ringers stay on the phone and work fine, but will randomly disapear. Sometimes a day, sometimes 2 days... then they are just gone and its set back to the original ringers.

then, when i add them back to my phone same way as above.. the settings (ringers set for certain contacts) go right back to where they were.

can anyone explain this???

What firmware version do you have? If it's v02, that method is known to have issues.

after some reading last night, i think thats my problem. my new phone is a v02 while my old one must of been a v01.

what is weird tho, is how they will work fine for a few days then just disapear. i would think they just wouldnt work at all.

i know you can go to the verizon store and get the upgrade from v01 to v02.. but what about the other way around? do you think they would let you do that? (i doubt it)

and, is there a way to delete the factory ring tones to clear up some space for some new ones since the phone only has a 3mb limit for ringtones?

Sorry man no way to delete anything that came on the phone

The v02 has a startup hack that nukes your memory card ringtones...using that method works, until the phone is restarted for whatever reason. Then you're back to factory default. That's why it would revert back.

And no, can't remove those, or downgrade your firmware. Sorry.

what if u took the card out b4 restart? i dont have a card yet, but just asking.

Nope. It doesn't matter. The phone resets the filesystem to remove the linking.
