Those chargers can be tricky you have to have them in the phone just right yeah the update could of been messed up take it to your provider and let them look at it .

unable to charge is usually a problem with the actual port. On most motorola's that have the p2k port it is soldered to the main board, and this solder breaks loose, breaking the connection with the charger. If you are really attached to this phone I could probably solder a new port on it for you for a price (depending on which port I would need to use), just let me know

or maybe try this. you know the charger has thee pins on it. what u could do is scratch the pin of the p2k connector that corresponding to the middle pin of the charger then try charging. most of the time it gets dirty and corroded. if it still doesn't work call jeff-fro

I had same problem at about the same time you did. Took my phone into the repair part of US cellular and they said they have seen it before and they cleaned my charger port out (had dirt/dust in it) and have not had problem since.

hope this helps.

I've seen this lots of times, and it can sometimes be dirty charge contacts, but it can also be broken solder joints inside the phone. This is usally caused by using the phone while it's being charged. The mobile chargers usually feature a coil cord and this places undue stress on a connector that is none to strong to begin with. Word of advice, do not use the phone while it's charging. I've been able to resolder the charge jacks on lots of these phones, but Motorola will not sell me the jack as a part.

If your phone is under one year old, send it into Motorola and they will replace the charge port for no fee under the manufacturers warranty. If it is beyond warranty, it only costs $30. Motorola needs to held responsible for their shotty design. The manufacturer recommends not talking on the phone while it is plugged into the charger.
