Here is my CURRENT situation:
I have the Nokia 8260 with Rogers AT&T.
I Used to have Nokia 6190 with FIDO. (still have the phone, excellent shape)
I'm up for my upgrade with Rogers AT&T account. I don't recall my actual aniversary date, but it is in January. All of a sudden, instead of my screen saying "HOME", it says "ROGERS AT&T" and I can't make a call or receive a call. I get this Voice recording to say to call in , blah blah blah.....
1. Does this mean my service is finished?
I Love the NOKIA 8200 series style phones. No protruding antenna, hate the flip styles. I like that small "pager" size / zippo style phone. My 8260 has taken MAJOR beatings... the lense is cracked, the antenna cover in the back is badly cracked, the color on my faceplate is worn off, gone through 3 earbud earpiece thingys/mics, and now my battery wont keep a charge (original battery on 950+ hrs); I have been real bad with the phone, but it works AMAZING. Sound and reception is GOOD !! and have never lost a call!!
Back in the day, 2 yrs ago, I hated my FIDO, cause I couldnt get reception anywhere, whereas with ROGERS I could.
Now, 2 yrs later, I discover this Forum, and see so much hype about FIDO.
So with all that said and over 950 hrs logged on my 8260 LifeTimer, my needs have changed BIGTIME:
I need a COMPACT Tri-Band GSM phone, so I can use in Australia, Canada, and Europe. I need to be able to send and receive TXT MSGs to and from Australia. I also travel within Ontario too, so I need coverage.
I WOULD like, but not mandatory, Voice Dialing, Voice recorder.
I DONT care for color display or games.
I Hate flip style phones, antennas sticking out and phones bigger than the 8200s
2. What is out there that is similar to the Nokia 8260, in tri-band that I can buy in Canada?
3. What is all the hype with the Nokia 7200 series? Is it offered here in Canada? looks good, nice size and seems to have good features.
ROGERS has the Ericsson T68i, but not sure if it is any good. Not sure how easy it is to navigate or write messsages, compared to Nokia. That joystick looks like it is gonna break.
4. Also, if I go GSM, would I be able to TXT MSG internationally???
I remember when I had my 6190 with FIDO back in the day, I was able to receive a txt msg me from Australia, but i never tried to txt msg them... A ROGERS rep told me that I can not TXT MSG internationally just yet... has to go through email...
5. Should I reactivate my 6190 again? And, can I reactivate it with ROGERS or FIDO?
6. What frequency does the 6190 work on?
7. Can I buy a phone, from another country, and get a SIM card from Canada so I can use it in here, in Canada?
8. I noticed, on this Forum, a lot of people with more than one account/service provider and phones.... what options are out there for me?!?!?!
9. Are there any new phones coming out in the near future that would suit my needs?
-----> PLEASE HELLLLPPPPP !!! <------
(sorry for the long post)
thanks in advance
