I have a vx8100 v07, and I know you cannot set anything from "My Sounds" as a ringtone, but I was wondering if it would be possible to do the following...
-record a sound clip into my sounds.
-upload the sound clip via bitpim.
-edit the sound clip and export it out as an MP3 using audacity.
-then transfer the MP3 on the phone or sd card via a card reader, or bitpim.
I tried doing this and i was able to get the file on the phone, but when played it was just a short and loud screeching noise. I was just curious to see if this would be a possible way to overcome the "my sounds" set to ringtones. has anyone tried this?

not sure about the screeching noise, but i've been able to record somethign in my sounds, use bitpim to take out the sound, and then place it into the my ringtones section of the phone and use it as a ringtone. I wish you could just manually apply songs in my sounds and put them as a ringer without all the hassle

Yea I know, thats one of the main reasons I wanted to upgrade from my VX6000, besides the fact that over two years, I had dropped it, smashed it, and beat it up so much that the down key woundnt work anymore, the flip up was hanging on by a thread, and the front screen had a spider web crack all the way down it. But anyways, I put my sd card into the reader, extracted the my sounds i needed, and placed them into my ringtones via bitpim, and it worked great. Thanks for the help, much quicker than my way, ha ha.

Just a question to anyone... What the hell, exactly, ARE the SOUNDS supposed to be used for? Who the hell wants to listen to Beethoven's Fifth on their phone???

Here's how i did it. You have to have a USB cable and BITPIM.
1) I recorded a new voice message, put the phone up to my TV durring the pimp part of "how high". lol.
2) It automatically saved into "my sounds". I selected it, hit "send", and where you type the phone number, i typed in my email address.
3) I went to my email, downloaded it, saved it to my desktop.
4) Opened "audacity", dragged the file into the window, saved as an MP3.
5) Opened "BITPIM".
>>>BITPIM Directions:
-Plug in your phone
-Open BITPIM
-Hit Edit -> Detect phone
-It will automatically detect your phone type and install it.
-Once its all done, hit the first button icon. The one with the phone, then the arrow to the right. The button reads "get phone data" when hoevered.
-Check all the boxes
-Onces its all done, go to ringtone, drag your MP3 converted recording into the box, and hit the OTHER phone/arrow icon that reads "send phone data" when hovered.
Done.
