v276 ringtones

ok, well i have had 6 cell phnes from verizon since last june. and this is the v276, i cant get ringtones onto it,i can only send pm3 files and cant make them as my ringtone, can someone tell me some programs i can download to convert mp3 file to compatible files for a v276, and save them as a ringtone????? i have the usb cord but i doesnt work at all
