Need help making ringtones for vx6100

Hey everyone, first post and I'm in need of some help.

I just got a data cable for my LG VX6100 phone. I'm looking to create some ringtones from mp3 and CDs. Is there a particularily good program out there that will do this and allow me to upload it using the data cable? This is very important as I do not pay for the internet service on the phone so I can not download a ring tone via text message. I'm looking for something that's free if possible.

This also brings up another point...I just got this data cable today, and when I plug in the phone to my computer I am not able to find the phone from "My Computer." I thought once it was plugged into the USB port that it would show up as an alternate drive (kind of like when you plug in a flash drive) and I would be able to easily download pictures I have taken on my phone to my computer. Instead, I can't find the phone connected even though it's plugged in and a message pops up on Windows XP saying it is connected. I have downloaded the drivers as well. Anyone know why this is?

Thanks for the help!

I downloaded bitpim, but it's not detecting my phone when it's plugged in for some reason. This is the data cable I bought.

When it's plugged in to the computer, I can't seem to find the drive for the cell phone even though the computer pops up down in the corner that new hardware is connected.

Ryan, It sounds like you don't have a driver installed. There is a link here on this site somewhere, but I couldn't get what I found there to work.
I joined Yahoogroups forum for VX5200 & got a driver there. I'm pretty sure it is the same driver for your phone.
You can look without joining, but if you want to download the file, you will have to join the group.

You can look thru the posts here for the netvigator.com link too. Some seem to have been able to get a driver there to work.

I downloaded all the drivers that came on the disc with the cable. So I don't know where to seek another driver, is it possible this is the problem even though I installed all them from the disc?

Ryan,
I'm REALLY new at this myself. I had no idea what I was doing, and still don't really.
My cable didn't come with a disk (no instructions - nothing), and I wasn't sure if yours did or not.
If you loaded the drivers from the disk, and installed BitPim, then I'm afraid I don't know enough about this to be of any help. Hope someone with more knowledge will see your post and help. Or hope you get it working.
I know there has been some discussion about just this here on this forum & the Yahoogroups forum that I mentioned above. They do have a special forum for the VX6100 too. It doesn't seem to be as active as the 5200 group. My daughter has a 6100 phone, so I checked to see about a 6100 group. Haven't had a chance to try to hook her phone up yet, or really check the group out very much.
You might try there tho.
Also, do a search here for VX6100, and anything related to your problem.
I do find their search a little hard to work with tho myself.
Wish I could be of more help. Good luck.
