My grandmother has just passed 100 000 km on her 03 buick regal and wants to switch to valvoline synpower 10w30 (cheaper than mobil1 or quaker state). She's had 5 oil changes on her car which is ~20, 000 km per change. The oil life monitor is apparantly only useful in synthetic situations, with dino oil we should do changes every 5, 000 km a former GM technician told us (quit 2 months ago). What oil filters do you recommend? I want one i can get at Canadian Tire, PartSource, or Napa. Was thinking a fram synthetic - any good? We have the 5 L of synthetic oil that we'll need.

also, part of the reason for the switch is that the car has the 3800 engine and we want it to last as long as possible without the intake manifold gasket issue (which the 98 lumina that had the 3100 had at 80, 000)
