Toshiba 803t Questions

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: jpmontalbo

I just got the 803t and have a couple of questions. I have the restricted kind, not tx60.

1. Does anyone know which bluetooth headphones will work with the phone?

2. Mp3s or aac playable by this phone or will I just have to use the software that came with it?

3. Can I flash the phone with tx60 firmware?

Thanks in advance.

I did find in one of the threads that the phone should play aac file types. If it can, what folder should I put these aac files at so that phone will be able to play them? I converted the mp3 files to aac using itunes.

1. Bluetooth headphones don't work. The phone's Bluetooth software doesn't support the necessary profile.
2. You need to use the included software for the JP firmware. Non-DRM MP3s and AAC files don't work. Euro and HK firmware don't have this restriction (they can play MP3/AAC files directly).
3. To my knowledge cross-flashing isn't possible as yet, they're just barely come up with the method for unlocking the phone, let alone flashing it.

Posted by: Timsta

cross flashing is definitely not available for it. not for awhile anyways. wait a bit.. and they'll probably will make such a functionality once Toshiba.. becomes more of a brand that is gonna kick around for awhile

Posted by: jpmontalbo

thank you guys for the information. I will watch these forums and wait until someone can cross flash.

803t doesn't work with any bluetooth headphones?

I cant wait until someone modifies the firmware so the service provider text isnt blocking the wallpaper

That's what I wrote. Only works with headset for phone calls, not for listening to music.

Synapz, you can't deactivate it? I know in the JP version you can turn that off, but the Chinese one you can't?

Posted by: Synapz

I dont think I can, I messed with all the settings and I can only turn off the clock display, not the service provider one

You should be able to go to:
1. settings
2. display settings
3. main display
4. then operator name and turn it off.

Hopefully that helps

Posted by: AL9999

Yep, that's where the setting should be. Heaven help Toshiba if they hid this setting like Sharp. (>_<)

Posted by: Synapz

Hehe nope... no such thing, I have a Cell Information option, and thats already off. And I dont know what 'On' does, cant tell a diff.

Posted by: totaltoanage

cause you have the euro version. JP has jap hacked unlock. i hate you JP you nub. enjoy your vids, especially when alices isnt around.

Posted by: dkny_boi

Ok, curiosity bit me... send me those videos too? haha

Posted by: AL9999

Thanks for the screenshot... the setting definitely isn't there; it should read Operator Name and should be inbetween Backlight and Power Saving.

Either the Japanese manufacturers are unbelievably stupid in that we want to stare at the operator name all day, or Vodafone Group is telling them to lock the name on the standby screen. Either way it's unbelievable that they'd do this.

Sorry Synapz, but with that firmware you're stuck with the name on the screen.

Posted by: AL9999

Oh, and Cell Information turned on will make the phone display a short message from each base station, if your network supports it. In Australia, Vodafone's GSM network displays the suburb name that the base station is located in, so you have your phone telling you roughly where you are. On the 3G network they don't do this though; like in your case, it does nothing.

I thought it's because Synapz's phone is not the japanese one and that's why he doesn't have the option to turn it off. Correct me if i'm wrong Synapz.

Posted by: Synapz

No mine's not the Japanese one, it's bought from HK straight from Vodaphone, so it's probably the Euro version.

I think AL9999 meant to talk about the European guys over there

Posted by: AL9999

Sorry if I wasn't clear... your phone is the TX-60, meaning it's the HK version. What I was saying is that Sharp and Toshiba seem to think that people outside Japan always want to have the operator name on the standby screen, because they always remove the option to hide it in the phones that they sell outside Japan. The TX-60 JP version (803T) has the option to hide the operator name, but the Euro version (TS803) and TX60 don't have the option. The Sharp 903 is the same - Euro version has no option to hide it, but JP and HK versions do.

I just don't get it.

Posted by: Timsta

haha. its called.. evolution of the mind. remember. japan is ahead of the game. therefore they get the funky functions like operator removal :P thats just a bs theory but it very well may be true

Posted by: Synapz

Or maybe Japan just gets special privileges

Hey I have a few questions to add, and some clarification to ask.

I want to get an 803T too, but I don't know anything about DRM, is it a pain in the butt or could I easily convert my MP3 collection to it?

See, I want the Japanese version so I can turn the operator logo off, but if the MP3 DRM issue is too much of a pain I'll go HK and deal with the logo.

So the Japanese version is called the 803T? Some sellers list it as both the 803T and TX-60, how am I supposed to know if it's JP, HK, or EU? When we are talking about which "version", Japanese or HK, are we talking specifically about the firmware on the chip?

Thanks so much,

Posted by: AL9999

I'd get the Euro or HK version. All I've seen are complaints about how you need to convert the files to Toshiba's proprietary DRM format, so save yourself the hassle and get the Euro or HK version.

Hey I have a question about the 803T. Can you save music/pictures from my computer onto the phone's intenral memory instead of the SD card?

Thanks

Thanks so much,

the tx60 is the better choice...

but if you get the 803t.. you can always use 3gp ringtones.. but the sound quality is poor...

someone posted a convertor in one of the threads

Thanks

you can move to memory card to phoen and vice versa... you probably don't want to save to phone memory anyways cause it's small.
not sure if you can do that with pc though.. i only used the beat engine softwrae to transfer songs to card

convert ringtones to .mmf it sounds way better than 3gp in my opinion

Posted by: trancedazn

can HK firmware play mp3 as ringtones, or do you have to use .mmf files also? and was anyone able to convert video files for the phone? i saw somewhere that you can make the phone play full screen videos, but just wondering how is the quality and the process of it.
