Treo 650 mod: Painting the housing

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Well since i looked everwhere and couldnt find anyone selling the OEM case/housing i decided to just paint it.

I used a Torx T5 to open it up and then just a small screwdriver set like a jewelers set.

here's a good link to a video showing someone replacing the screen of the 650.

Treo 650 LCD replacement video

below are my pics of the process, i should have taken more, but i was too into it and didn't feel like stopping every 5 sec to take a pic.

Enjoy

wow, that looks great!
Lemme ask, does the paint feel a lil sticky or very smooth? I once tried to paint my Nintendo 64 controllers years ago, and never tried to paint plastic again since.

actually the paint feels quite smooth. i started by sanding it down a little, but didn't sand the battery cover. that piece is the smoothest of it all. i should really not have sanded any of it.....

the paint i used was "Rust-Oleum Metallic - Brilliant Metal Finish - Indoor/Outdoor"

Looks wicked cool man! I just did my sidekick & my boyfriend's phone chameleon purple & they turned out great, so now I'm all encouraged & I'm gonna tackle the Treo next. I love the color you used too, I'm gonna do mine a similar color. I found this cool paint at walmart, it's metallic charcoal & textured.

Krylon has a line of paint called FUSION, which is made for painting plastics. If you put a base coat of that down, then you can use any other spraypaint and It'll work alot better. This is how I paint my XBOXes

I just did mine last night, so I'll post some pics of my own. I'll start my own thread though so I don't steal your thunder.

i found some cool chrome spray paint... i'm thinking of going one step further and painting the inner piece (just on the outsides of the LCD screen) chrome.

maybe i should photoshop first to see how it looks :-)
